I'm going to have my 01 ALH Jetta dynoed in about a month with a Dynojet that does have the optical RPM sensor. I've done some searching but can't really come up with a straight answer of how the dyno operator will pick up the RPM signal.

From what I understand I'm supposed to use some reflective tape but I would like to know where I need to place it and if I need to take accessory cover off the side of the motor before going to the shop.

Also, on a manual what gear is the 1 to 1 ratio for the dyno?

Input from anyone that has had their car on a dyno would be great. Thanks!

I think....
You will have to pull the timing belt cover. Once you do that you place the reflective tape on the injection pump pulley.

Either the injection pump or cam sprocket work fine. The dyno operator will then need to figure out the right number of degrees of rotation between "spark plug firings" to get the RPM's right. ;)
