2013 Golf Highline Wagon
My 2013 Canadian Golf TDI Highline wagon currently has 225/45 R17 all season tireson it and I am in the market for a second set of rims for winter tires. Will a 225/50 R17 winter tire on a 57.1mm bore, 5x112 bolt pattern OEM work on my baby or do I have to stay with the 225/45s?

Thanks in advance for any expertise anyone can provide on this point.

225/50-17 will fit just fine unless you’ve dropped it, and even then should be fine.
225/55-17 might work with stock ride, better with lift though (ex. Allroad or Tiguan springs installed)

"50" Profile Tires On A "45" Profile Factory Rim?

My Canadian 2013 Golf TDI Highline Wagon shows 225/45 17R as the largest factory tires. Can I use 225/50 R17 tires on the OEM rims?

Probably you will have enough room to do it, but it would be best if you had something with which to run a test.

Nevertheless, the only thing you will really notice is a nominative decrease in mileage, which will be made up when you calculate the newly forced odometer error.

Yes. I had 225/55/17's on my '09. At full in they rubbed just enough to hear it. I couldn't even see a rub mark when I took one off to inspect. Your sizes will net you just under one inch added to height of tire.

Why not put on 16" rims? That's what ive done with my golf wagon. The tires are cheaper and the tread is narrower and relatively taller which gives better traction. 205/55R16 Continental Winter Contact SI
