I have a few questions regarding the brass vs steel synchros for 1-4 gears on my 02Q with NGB code from 2012. I started a tranny/synchro upgrade thread for passat but now that ive learned more i want to ask anyone with knowledge on these transmissions. As of now I cant find the part numbers for brass older style 02Q synchros that ive heard came in early 02Q's. I would like to install them in mine if theyre compatible to help fix my problems im having with my SMF clutch. Does anyone have them or know where I can go to get the numbers? I tried the dealer and ecs tuning with no luck. I did however purchase a brass replacement for 4th gear that was showing as an option in the ETKA breakdown the dealer gave me. Im looking for brass versions for 1, 2 and 3 gears. PN 02M 311 197 H and 02M 311 197 J are the steel ones currently installed that im looking for the brass equivalent. Thanks for the help!

Sorry just trying to get information quickly so i can get back on the road. My 7.3 powerstroke dually isnt nearly as efficient as my passat! I figured i may not receive too many visitors with the old one labeled passat 6 speed tranny. can you rename a thread you start?

Not sure if this helps, but I found this on VWVortex

My 02M is from a 2000 Bora 1.9 TDI in France and has code DRW, and the following part numbers are supposed to be for that version of this trans.

02M 311 277 A - Synchronizer Ring (inner)
02F 311 279 - Outer Ring -- 1./2. gear
02M 311 247 A - Synchronizer ring

These parts are the same for 1st gear and 2nd gear, and I need both, so 2x each.
For 3rd and 4th gear, apparently only the synchro ring itself is damaged.

02M 311 269 E - Synchronizer Ring -- 4th gear
02M 311 269 D - Synchronizer Ring -- 3rd gear

If so , go find a used 02M and pull the syncro's out of it.

I ended up going with the steel synchros for 1 thru 3.I did find a brass one for 4th gear that I installed. It was an option on my breakdown from ETKA. PN 02M311269H. I also found that my throwout bearing is leaking and could have been causing the clutch not to disengage fully. Hopefully by using the factory oil, using a fluidampr and replacing the throwout bearing I can keep this thing together!

Reviving this thread to ask which synchros did you end up with (part numbers)? I just lost 2nd gear synchro in my MK7 02Q PFN. Was hoping the fluidampr was going to save me, but 15k miles was all it took. Guessing by INA's response that 02m synchros will work here?
