All,

Stock 16" wheels with new tires came with the b5.5 Passat I bought. Some half-wit poorly painted the aluminum wheels black with a rattle can, and it's ugly and peeling.
What's the best way to get the paint off? Light sand paper?

Thanks, Dave.

Sandpaper may scratch the silver surface of the wheel under the black paint. Might try adhesive remover (GooGone, 3M Adhesive Remover).

A car wash pressure spray might even knock most of the black spray paint off if the wheels were not sanded before spraying the black paint.

Brake Clean will get the paint off. May or may not damage wheel surface top coat. Im unsure. Use at own risk.

Find a local wheel repair company. Refinishing should be ~$75/wheel if there's no curb rash that needs to be repaired.

I only buy parts from companies that support this FREE website, and ECS is not one of them...

Brake fluid will take the paint off. Just be careful if the wheels have a coat of paint that you want to keep afterwards.

Just brush it on and let it sit for while. You may have to repeat the process.

Be careful not to get any fluid on anything painted that you wish to keep painted!
