So my wife has been driving my 2015 VW Passat TDI SEL to work to save on fuel. I'm sure due to applying makeup and constantly adjusting the review mirror (she admitted to it) it popped out of place  The mount itself is extremely secure however, the plastic housing connected to the mirror itself appears to have two metal clips on each side. I'm guessing those clips can help reattach in place, but it's tight quarters and difficult to see, especially with one person. Is this accurate? Anyone know how to reattach

This is a guess, but maybe bend the clips out some to make a tighter connection. And don't blame the wifey, she's just using the damn thing. May not be a great design.

Ok, I figured it out! You take the plastic housing apart and you use those metal clips on the mirror to attach to the front of the mount and slide up the mount until is secures in place! Sounds easy, but it was hard to see until I took apart the plastic housing.
