I can't decide whether to keep or return my 2010 Jetta tdi, and open to suggestion of the forum members..
It has 204K on it and has been fine other than a turbo change which was caused by shifting error.[sudden over rev of the engine]
I have a son who will turn 15 year old in Jan 2019. I can't decide whether to return the car to VW or keep it for another 1.5 year, so I can give it to him. VW buyback value is $5850.
The first scenario is the store the car for a 1.5 year and give it to him when he gets the license.
The second scenario is return the car and wait 1.5-2 years and try to buy 2015 Jetta or may be Golf TDI for him.
The issue with the second scenario is what would be the market value of 2015's 2 years from now?
For instance, would it be even possible to find a decent 2015 Jetta for 7000-8000 Dollars as I don't want to pay too much for his first car? He likes the manual transmission and this is also adding more ambiguity whether I can find a 2015 MT for this price range in 2 years or so?
Thank you for the suggestions/opinions.

Isn't the fix worth $5100 or so? To me it would be a no brainer to take the money and the fix. And enjoy having a care with some major components under warranty until 250k miles or so.

Or get the fix and then sell private party and I think you'd still come out ahead if you don't mind the trouble of it. I would think you could get $5k for that car in a private sale.

Correct the fix is about $5100. I am leaning in that direction too. I bought it new and has been the only driver of the vehicle and so far it served me well with minimal issues.
The concerning issue is it's being over 200K mileage, these are mostly highway miles.

Keep the car, your son will thank you later when he goes on road trips with his friends
