Does anyone actually go there for solid advice? I'm part of the group, but by far, it's a joke. I see it mostly as entertainment, like all the knuckleheads that cherish the ALH evry mod (and clearly don't know what EGT stands for), or those who ask what happens if they ran 20 miles on a tank of gasoline.

Oh, and the language there is both comical, but atrocious. I like the fact that this group has always been fairly civil.

Even though I've been quieter post-dieselgate, I still come here if I need real solutions, though I've thankfully been trouble free for the most part with the 7 TDIs here.

Strong pass for me. In fact I stop visiting the majority of Facebook’s Automotive forums. To many pimple face kids making fun/stupid/pointless comments towards the OP

You would think they would act appropriately, you know, with their actual real name
next to their post- guess not

Facebook is literally a criminal organization. I deleted my account several years ago and have not regretted it. I do see the value in having a social network online. I just wish there was one that wasn't as disgusting as Facebook is.

Agreed. But anywhere you can find help has value. I stick with TDI Club, My Turbo Diesel and occasionally VW Vortex. There are some good general videos on Youtube, but I'm not a big fan of Google either.

Yes, this! And now, while people are whining and asking others not to post coal rolling or delete videos, the new big thing is hood stacks. The irony!

And for the record, I don't know why you'd want to hood stack any TDI, unless you're Darkside Developments with a car meant for the track only.

I have a FB 'alternate' account primarily to keep up with the VW Clubs (local & regional). I virtually have no friends there. So, I see almost zero ads, sponsored posts, politics, etc., just stuff from the clubs and lots of VW Porn.

(do not send a friend request)

My wife has an account that she uses for her nature photography...... various clubs, national park system links, etc. She (and I) participate in local photo competitions. FB is where and how to stay connected and to receive notifications about upcoming events as the entities involved prefer FB over most everything else.

Face Booking requires lots of self discipline to not get "hooked" day in and out! The MarketPlace is good to find VW stuff (old stuff) ...

I do not follow any automotive forums on FB...... actually wasn't aware they existed!

As for the ALH engine, any way you look at them, they ROCK..:D

I am a part of some of the TDI groups on there but I agree wholeheartedly I spend more time shaking my head at the hood stacks, what oil do I run, and tire size questions. If I need information this is the place to come. If I want to laugh those FB groups are usually good for that.

I belong to a few of those groups.
I find this forum the best for information. I have been here for a bit now . This group has been the best . You guys are like NASA scientists compared to other forums .
Facebook is entertaining.

Same here, until last week. My dog ran off/got dognapped and the girl at the shelter told me about this dog recovery page on FB. Got my dog back. Social media has it's merits. Probably going to delete the account though.

Hey Paul, hope you're doing well!

Don't forget about the best posts - "My girlfriend/wife/mistress accidentally filled up my car with 93 octane. She made it 20 miles and the car stopped working. How f***ed am I now?"

And no joke, there's like one of these posts a week. Most of the time, I feel like it's a troll post. Though I will say - I had an Uber customer a few weeks back that told me they accidentally filled up a Penske or Budget rental truck with gasoline, when the tank was darn near empty. Of course, it stopped working, their insurance covered the cost of a new truck, and the rental company said they're permanently banned from renting anymore vehicles. Cracked me up how anyone could be that stupid. Even when I was clueless about diesels at like 19, I knew not to put gasoline in a moving truck's tank!

I forgot your girl's name, but I have an intact female now myself. Best traveling companion ever! I'd be devastated if I lost her, but yes, social media does have it's merits, Ben. But a lot of it is a time waster.

On that note, I have a LinkedIn that I have no reason to update, Facebook, and that's it. Instagram, Twitter, and I hear of a new one called Tik Tok (I thought originally it was a clock forum), Snapchat, etc - I don't see the point. Probably helps that I'm also 20 years older than a millenial!

BTW, did you ever replace your Golf? I still have my 2010 JSW, but I need to replace a hood, headlight, bumper and swap over my CP3, and then it gets sold. DSG was fun while it lasted, but I so much prefer the 02Q, though whenever I get my home shop setup, I need to stick in stainless steel forks in it.

As stated by Turbobrick240, Social Media does have it's merits just like everything else on the Interweb .. (I found and purchased a rather nice 1975 VW Transporter on the Market Place in FB that was listed no other place according to the seller.)

As for banning the topic, I suspect this one thread has prompted a few people to check out FB TDIers ... which I was not aware existed until this Thread (Nope, ain't been there yet...:D)

As for a "time waster," I do agree. However, like most anything in life, you have to use self-discipline when using social media!

Lastly, there are a few crazy Threads going on here in the TDI Club.

Good observation! Poppy was at the tail end (heheh) of a heat cycle when she wandered off in search of K9 companionship. I was in panic mode for 48 hours.

Yeah, I replaced my golf with as identical a 2.5L golf as VW made. It was only 20 minutes away at a tiny used car dealership. And it was cheap. I really wanted a new gti, but think I made the right choice. My next car will probably be electric.

I must be the outlier of the group. After dieselgate, I bought more diesels. Besides what's listed below, I have my 2010 JSW I need to fix and flip (after I remove my CP3 and my sport springs, as the rest of the mods have already been moved to the 2013).

Then, my mother has a 2005 Jetta wagon I gifted her (that will get a mk4 Golf front end makeover soon), a 2014 New Beetle Convertible with 02Q, Stage 2 and a short shifter, and a 2015 GSW with a Stage 2. Plus other miscelaneous turbo and NA diesels around the ranch.

I'm on a few of them. The format is so easily in your face, easy to respond to, add photos etc. But I do agree on the type of posts that go on there. Lots of lowest common denominator.

I got bumped to being a moderator in one of the groups, but I'm relatively hands-off. So long as there's no personal attacks happening, I'm not too inclined to spend a ton of time nitpicking every post. I've got better things to do with my time. So generally, I let the kids have their fun, so long as it doesn't devolve into useless name-calling or threats or way too far off topic, it'll likely be allowed to stay. And even then, someone would have to report it for me to even take the time to address it unless I happened across the individual post in question first and it was extremely far out of line.

I started joining car groups on Facebook to drown out the ridiculous political BS on both sides that would otherwise fill my newsfeed. I've also been able to gain a couple customers from my involvement there, but for the time invested the return probably hasn't been as great as I would like in that regard. It's just an easy platform to share on, I suppose.

The last time I rented the biggest Uhaul last year it was gas. Go back about 12 years and yeah, the largest ones were diesel, some even had a stick.
I was referring to U-Haul circa 1998-2003. I know better than to rent anything other than a tow dolly from them nowadays!

Oh, and this is the kind of crap on the TDI forum on facebook that makes you cringe...
