I have a 2005 Golf with an unknown tune (prior owner). I'm active duty military and a Nevada resident. Car passes NV test (test in the tail pipe) but not CA emissions (just the OBD II test) because of "missing or incomplete monitors".
I've done some research and it seems like its just the ECU tune. My question is:
1) Do I just get this one re-tuned to pass CA test? (any suggestions on where to send it?)
2) Do I buy another ECU and use it to pass the OBD II test? (and does that one have to be programed for my VIN or is it plug and play?)
Thanks for any help. Last year my Dad drove it to Nevada and back to get the smog done. I don't want to have do that this year.
