6.4 tbn seems fairly high for 12k miles on it so that's maybe a positive note.

What was the starting tbn?

Also buy a better oil, don't add things to it. Amsoil euro formula is a very high quality oil, motul 8100nx clean is another very very good oil.

Have you done a VOA on the oil?

Sometimes, there is some iron in the VOA, which then adds up with the actual wear to make it seem worse than it really is.

Don't go cheap on oil. Buy a good quality oil. There are several quality oils that will be fine for your vehicle, but for me I only use Pentosin Super Performance III.

Says tbn is strong 6.4 >1 is low maybe 6.4 is high
Tbn of 6.4 is suspicious. You cannot gain tbn with use of the oil. Tbn goes down as total acid number goes up. It can't go from 5.4 to 6.4 with use. It is most likely a test error or they fat fingered it when they typed it up for you.

How was the oil sample taken?
If you had the dealer take the sample for you it could be possible that the mechanic took the sample from there drain pan after draining it from the car contaminating the sample. A lot of mechanics do not know the proper way to take the sample to get accurate results.

More UOA will also be very useful. Difficult to make solid conclusions from one data point.

I would not use MoS2 in an engine that new. I believe I've read that these engines tend to shed more iron than others early in their lives. And 12K miles is not broken in for a TDI.

Miles on engine?
TBN at 12k miles (engine oil) should be much lower, down around the minimum of >1. TBN at 6.4 sounds like virgin oil, but I may be wrong.

Who did the analysis?

Blackstone lab . A oils Tbm could start out as high as 12 mine is at 6.4 tested at 10,000 miles so it’s going down not up . Going to test at 15,000 miles my sample is Exceptionally good for 10,000 miles no oil change is needed at this time.

Are you not using a 507.00 oil for your TDI?

to get TBN of that high, you're not going to meet the .8% max for the 507.00 requirement, because you'll need a large chunk of calcium sulfonate (and Magnesium sulfonate), which in the name itself, contains sulfur. on VOA's you'll be seeing large amounts of calcium (and Magnesium).

507.00 ranges typically from 5.4 to 6.5 KOH/g. Amsoil AEL is an outlier at a claimed 8.8 (which is still below your claimed typical 10-12).

Liqui moly 4200 you want to put in next is 6.5 KOH/g. Castrol stuff is on the low end of the scale.

For Total Quartz Ineo 504/507, which is on the upper end of the spectrum, see http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=231670

Compare the calcium, 1297 ppm for the Total Oil.

HEre's Redline 5w30, with a TBN of 8.55, which a calcium level of 2469, nearly double, with a sulphated ash limit of 1.5%.

If this issue is important to you then you might want to have a phone conversation with Blackstone lab and figure out how you still have a TBN of 6.4 after 12,000 miles using a VW 507 oil.

^^^this. Something is wrong with your TBN number. It just doesn't make sense. I've had Blackstone run several UOA for me, on my 2009, 2012 and 2014 common rail diesels. At 10-12,000 miles, tbn is always down below 3...every time.
