Mobil 1 Formula ESP 5W-30.

Just had my first stealership service after 2 years & 18,000 miles(Variable servicing regime); they used Mobil 1 Formula ESP 5W-30. Prior to this I have been using Castrol SLX II Longlife 0W-30 which was recommended when I bought the Bug new. It now seems to run smoother especially at idle; my question is; is this just my imagination or is this really possible with different oils ?

From what I have read, that seems to be the consensus. I kinda wondered if it was a mind thing but yours seems to be a "blind test." I have wanted to try it but can't bite the financial bullet.

I agree with 65bug, my engine seems to run much smoother and quieter since switching to M1 ESP. The only problem is what dh already alluded to: pricy! Since it's not available on the shelves here in the USA, we get it by mail order for about $11/L before shipping!

Good stuff though, although I might try a cheaper and more widely available 507 oil next change.
