lifter failure = new engine
These are a few pics of a 2002 Jetta Tdi that was towed in, no start. I had read of these kind of failures but never saw one until this car came in. Each lifter had a hole worn in it from the cam but only 1 was at the point it actually failed. Car had somewhere around 80k on it. Sorry for crappy cell phone pics.
Just figured I would post this up so owners of 2002 Tdi's(iirc, the only year that has had these failures) have these checked to avoid having to deal with such a huge expense.

um, yes the motor is trash
i tried to take pics of the walls, but it wouldn't come out with the camera phone....
