Good evening, sorry if this is a common question, but I cant find a for sure answer, as my profile says, I have an ALH, and I have some mods planned for my car, and I can get an ASV IP for around 150$, but some say that its the same pump as the ALH one with a 10mm plunger, others say that it as an 11mm plunger, I would prefer to buy a genuine Bosch pump with an original plunger than some random chinese plunger, revising the pump and changing seals is "easy" a friend of mine can do it.

Best regards.

You can decipher that by locating the Bosch p/n on your pump.

Bosch VE P/N Example: 0 460 494 001

bold underline part is the important bit. so if the pump says "404" its a 10mm pump. if it says "414" its an 11mm pump

Key to Bosch Part Number:

0= Denotes complete product
460= Product class, Distributor pump
4= Identifier for VE Injection pump
9= Plunger Diameter: 8=8mm,9=9mm,0=10mm,1=11mm,2=12mm,3=13mm & 4=14mm
4= Number of Cylinders
001= Application

^^^^^ great info.

OP: in any given model year in general VW used 10mm Bosch IPs for engines intended for manual transmissions and 11mm for engines intended for auto transmissions.

So, the part number is your best bet.

Thank you SO much, gonna save this one!

This being said, the supposed ASV pump is marked 404, so its a 10mm IP, thanks!

As far as I know, the only 1.9 rotary pump cars to get an 11mm pump are the USA automatics, and the 98 Passats.

Found/discovered that the Renault 1.9 DTI used VE37 pumps/injections systems and they all have 11mm pistons, price range on a quick look around start at 50€ up to 250€, maybe gonna grab one, and have a friend take it apart to asset the state, if its OK when I do my TB I might put the 11mm plunger and compare springs and camplates and select the best ones with new seals and orings.
