I'm changing the MAF out for a new one on an 04' Jetta TDI. I saw a post on-line that said I should disconnect the battery so the ECU could re-set itself. The post said the computer would need to re-learn the settings for the new MAF and by disconnecting the battery I would erase the old settings stored in the computer. I guess by just changing the MAF and not disconeecting the power it will take longer for the car to adjust to the new maf.

This sounds resonable but I wanted to know if it is really necessary? I don't want to run into other problems by disconnecting the battery.

Thanks
