I'm picking up a 2014 Passat TDI tomorrow and i'll start working on an improved setup for these now that i'll actually have a car to test with.

Just wanted to report that I bought a Nicktane kit for my '05 BEW-engined Jetta, installed and have been driving with it for the past few days. The kit is simple to install and seems very well made. I went with the CAT 2 micron filter for the lower cost and widespread availability. Happy to have the extra piece of mind from better filtration and a more robust setup than stock!

Bumping for a couple questions: I browsed through the Donaldson catalog online and came across the P551315. It's an 80mm OD, 3 micron filter, thus it'll easily fit the B4's stock bracket. Does the filter head fit, or is it too big?

A quick look for locating a supplier for the filter turned up the CAT 1R0759 as a replacement, but I don't know if this too is a 3 micron filter and/or if the medium is able to be changed. Do you have any details on this filter too?

Question, how long will the short 1 micron filter last?
how about the long 1 micron filter?

anyone have any water issues with the 1 micron filter since it does not have a separator?

been contemplating getting the Donaldson filter because of the water separator. i get my fuel from valero, seems to be quality fuel. but you never know.
already know the heartache of buying a used car who didnt change the fuel filter as regularly as they should have and having the injector break off inside.

hi,

on stock tdi you should get about 50k out of the short 1 micron filter. the tall one wont fit on a TDI. the 1 micron filter DOES separate water. if it didn't i wouldn't consider it suitable filter for use on the Uber filter kit.

oh, sweet. i will continue to use the 1 micron filter then. i am so loving the kit. installed it about 20000 miles ago, have had it for year. have a 2003 wagon tdi. i do have slightly bigger injectors. sp520. might add a stage 2 and later on pp520. what would the mileage to change the filter out then?

i can't really say. it all depends on fuel consumption. i based my figures on getting around 48 mpg.if yours is 10% worse then i would change it 10% sooner, etc.

I forgot these filters are still around until this thread got bumped. I notice on the site there is no option for a New Beetle (my 2001). I'd like to get a filter kit, finally, what do I do to ensure I get the right mounting bracket?

hi,

i don't have any brackets for the beetles. i made 10 prototypes and it took 2 years to sell them so i never went into production. there just wasn't enough interest in them. the best i could suggest would be to re-use your stock bracket by spreading it apart and using a large hose clamp around it to hold the filter in place. it wouldn't be as elegant but it will work.

Similar question about the B 5.5 Passat TDI. Did you ever make a bracket for it? If not, can the existing bracket be used? What is the diameter of the bracket?

no i didn't. you could mount it but it would be the same method as the beetle.

I assume that you still have this kit available for MK4/2003 Golf TDI, correct?

Same color choice as before? I'm trying to decide between the black and the red.

Just ordered the Uber Fuel Filter Kit with the red filter head and the 2 micron CAT 1R-0750 filter.

The price at nicktane.com is a bit deceiving though. The Uber Fuel Filter Kit is currently listed for $99.00 and is described - "This is a complete kit consisting of the filter head, mounting bracket, 1-micron filter, banjo fittings, clamps, nuts, washers, bolts, o-ring, filter wrench, and directions."

When you get to available options, the 1-micron filter is an extra charge of $48. It seems to me that the kit should not say that it includes the 1-micron filter if the filter is not included.

I am misunderstanding that the 1-micron filter is actually included with the kit for $99.00 and the 'do you want a filter' option is for a second filter?

FWIW, the discount coupon TDICLUB still works for free shipping.

Just a shout out for the Nicktane kit -- I've been running mine for probably 8 years now and it's been fantastic. I've only changed out the 2 micron cat filter once (at 60K miles) and there was no issue. I cut open the old filter and there was grime and such but nothing unusual. I'm in for the long haul with this TDI and I like the piece of mind this filter setup offers. Along with a bypass oil filter setup, this is a good assurance of longevity.

I agree entirely. I used the Lubrication Specialists filter head with the Cat 2-micron filter for several years, before switching to the Nicktane filter head. Changing the fuel filters is so much easier with the Nicktane and not nearly as messy.

I think a 60k-80k filter change schedule works fine in most cases, though if someone wants to wait till 100k miles they should be okay. I credit the 2-micron Cat filter as a primary reason why I'm still running the original injection pump after 12 years and 570k+ miles.

This is a good point. Maybe it could be elaborated on?

I know the seller hasn't responded, but I came across a Nicktane install guide for non-tdi vehicles and I saw that he recomends putting some light grease on the O-Ring for the filter head.

Anybody do that on the TDI kit?

Also, as I'm out of the loop, will the 1-Micron with water filtration screw into the normal threads that the 1R-0750 filter uses? I don't want to buy another piece to attach a different filter (specifically UHE filters)

I can't say for sure, but since Nick offers different filter heads for the two filter types, then they probably have different threads. That's why I went for the filter head that uses the 1R-0750 CAT filter, since those filters are universally available.

That's what I have :)

I'll send the vendor a message to see if he can shed some light :)

Hi,

the uber kit was originally priced at $147 which included a $48 1-micron filter. that was the only filter option and it was rated for 50k miles. after having the kit out for a while i was asked to sell it with a cheaper filter so i removed the included $48 filter and lowed the price $48 to the current price of $99 and made the filter optional.

the options at the bottom allow you to select which filter you want and adjust the price accordingly.

Vendor/seller should respond. Does not seem like too much to ask just to clear things up for all.

no, there are 3 nipples that ecompass all of the filter offerings we have. click on any filter on our site and it tells you which thread size it is. there is also a corresponding oring for each nipple.
