I have a small tear at the small clip on the left side outer boot. Hardly any grease has slung out so I was replacing the boot and grease only.
I cannot get the Outer CV Joint disconnected from the axle to slide the new boot on. I've seen post suggesting a BFH, but I'm reluctant to go banging on something that ain't broke. Appreciate any help!

get a service manual.... http://www.bentleypublishers.com/

to save you heartburn. The CV joint is retained by a spring clip and you must indeed knock it off... CAREFULLY!!! so as not to dstroy anything else. An aluminum bar about 3/4" diameter and 12" long works good. Softer than brass, no marring. Take a utility knife and cut away the old boot first. Clamp the shaft in a vise.....
