I have a 1996 Passat TDI 1.9 1Z engine
My engine light was on, and I have found the problem to turn that off, I had a leaky hose in the ECM.
Which I thought was my problem with the hesitation.
I have rephrased my problem to a surging problem. While I’m driving and getting to the upper RPMs like 3000 and above,
when I excelerate and at full throttle the engine seems to surge and surge until I shift.
These are a few things that I have done to the car and checked out
New fuel filter, new air filter, new exhaust system, with new cat. and there’s no vacuum leaks, and no faults in the system.
I appreciate your help and your ideas.
Sincerely Paul

Do you know how to run logs? If so I would log maf actual vs. specified and MAP actual vs. Specified and see if either of those look way off. The maf on these cars is fairly rare to fail however anything man made can fail. I'd suspect it or a boost leak. Did you replace the hose inside the ecu as well as the hose going to it?
