Hey, you want feedback, go to Pirate4x4. TDIclub build threads get the golf clap.
But yeah, I get the same feeling sometimes with my build thread. Just keep watching the thread views ticking up so you know people are reading it.

That wiring is awesome. I have never been a fan of wiring other than really simple stereo type stuff. I am putting it off big time on my swap.

Yes, I hate wiring with a passion. I love this stuff, and although its a lot of money for me, would totally be worth it in my opinion.

In subscribed. I've got an 88 3.0 SAS 4runner and a 2000 TDI with a bad tranny..... If only the 4runner didn't run good as is. But it would be awesome to have a diesel in it. There shouldn't be to much power advantage over the 22re, what are the difference in torque?

I read a saying somewhere...maybe on here... "people buy horse power but drive torque" ;)....it's true.... my tacoma with a TDI feels faster and is much more fun to drive than any other stock engined normally aspirated gasser toyota truck I've ever driven....4 cylinder or V6...my buddy has a 95 taco with the 5vzfe, he can't believe the difference in torque compared to his truck whenever he drives mine ....

^^ Cool link

Everything pictured is Tyco
Including the pliers.. NOT cheap tho.
Frame is ~$200ish
Die sets range from $250 to $2500 depending on the crimp
Its 7 die sets to cover ALL of the ALH wiring
I find my self using 2 of the 7 90+% of the time

I have some basic pliers that were about $60
They work really well if your patient
NOT tyco tho....

Ill see about some part#s
If I can find them

dang, i was hoping you had an affordable crimper :/ i don't understand why that stuff is so damn expensive. it's just some little pieces of hardened machined steel... *sigh* the $30 hand crimping tool works pretty good if you fiddle with it. the $30 klein ratcheting frame i have is great, it's just the open-barrel die makes no sense. i think it might work fine if i modify it, which would requiring buying a 2nd die of the same type...

Fooled with it most of the day
Have all the fault codes worked out
(Less the missing messages from ABS-Cluster-Airbag)

Checked mechanical oil PSI on the filter flange
Checked the turbo return line for oil!!
Topped off the power steering fluid (Running VW mineral oil)
Made my 50/50 mix of G-12 and added it
Finished up the wiring in the fenders + reinstalled the liners
Bolted up the front bumper
Welded on some mounts for the lower front spoiler frond on SR5 trucks
Measured for the remainder of the exhaust system......
Finished up the last of the intercooler piping (ordered + waiting for T-Bolt clamps)

Still sorting out:
coolant temp switch for the electric fan
A relayed circuit inside the underhood toyota fuse box for said fan...
"Air Box" and turbo inlet plumbing W/MAF housing

Curious on how you plumbed up the vw power steeeing pump to the steering box. Did you have custom lines made to run from the vw pump to Toyota box?

I followed along with what I saw a few others doing
The toyota line has the same threads as the VW pump (Banjo hole)
I modified only the END of the toyota line to fit the vw pump
Its a half hour + a dremel tool away from threading right on!!
I dont have detailed pics of that process but I found many examples when googling

I have threaded in on/off 6 or 8 times now total
Its legit and totally serviceable

Just be careful NOT to get too happy with the dremel and you will be fine

Now the real question
Will the VW pump keep up with the demand once I get it up into the woods???
Only a wheeling trip will tell me that.......

OK that's good to know. You might want to put some kind of PS cooler on the line, i can't remember if you had the 22re or 3.0, my 3.0 lines have a cooler built in, or the fluid may get to hot once you start using it for Wheeling. I've heard of that happening a lot.

My Stock sr5/22re truck has a fluid cooler too
Its just a looped line infront of the RAD
This has stayed as is for now...

It may get a full on cooler and ill let the fan do its thing if needed
Summit racing has tansmission fluid cooler kits for $100-ish
These have worked well for me on past projects

Motor looks real rigid when revving, you use rubber mounts?

^^ Its WAY stiff
feels like its welded in place
at idle its horrid
from idle thru about 1800rpm its LOUD and makes EVERYTHING vibrate
from 1800 thru 2250 its better
Have yet to do better then 45mph so IDK much about the road manners

X2 Rubber Front Mounts from a 22reTurbo truck (Stock toyota parts)
2 Poly Rear Transer case mounts (Trail Gear "Bomb proof" replacements)

Got to run it around the industrial park.....

ALL in all GREAT STUFF!!!
However I did already find some things I DONT like and will be addressing
First off the clutch slips.....
Second the transfercase mounts are SO STIFF/LOUD > IDK if im going to e able to take it long term.. for now its funny how much everything vibrates
Third I can already tell the VW pump ISNT going to keep up with the steering demands of 36's.... So im looking into pump upgrades VW and others.....
Fourth Is the rear brakes NEED a prop. valve
(I removed the stock yota version and flex-lined it from the frame rail to the 3rd)
Fifth It NEEDS a muffler!!! I have it straight piped!!
Front the turbo flange it steps out from the outlet size gradually to 2.5"
Sixth It needs MOAR heat (Lake effect snows stack up...)
(I ditched the coolant preheaters - They will be getting added in!!)

more info soon

Cool that you have it up and running:cool:

Sucks to hear about the steering pump. I was hoping to use it in my swap too (37s, hydro assist)

Southbend makes a real nice Toyota clutch that won't slip, and its reasonably priced.

You might be able to punch some holes in the rubber of your mounts and soften them up a bit. I've seen it work with industrial mounts, but never tried it on trucks. Better solution would be to swap to softer mounts, but that's pretty hard to do once you got everything welded up.

EVERYTHING is serviceable/replaceable in a normal R+R fashion
Same as it would be workn on a 22re
I can swap mounts easy
My fear is when it gets to the trail soft mounts arnt gona hold up
and NO I wont do the ole' "Chain-Er' to the frame rail" trick.......

I took a VW pump over to a local hydraulics shop
When we split it open
He laughed and said this thing could b more then capable
Just got to drill out this here restrictor!!>> pointing at a small hole
Internal to the pump
We did drill it out
AND WOW >>> WHAT A DIFFERENCE
Its WAY better and has yet to fall short
Im NOT wheeling it yet so the real deal in the woods is still unknown
but At Idle > sitting > Palm on steer wheel > left/right/left/right FAST as I can
Its legit

Seams better the a stock VW
HAHA

Next up

Finish the exhaust
(Yes It WILL exit in the rear behind the bed, next to the bumper)
No stacks' or bs kiddy stuff for me

Finalize the shift boot/tunnel metal work
Still lookn at other installs/ideas
nothing official has been welded but I think I have a plan.....

FINALLY weld the shock hoops + Supports in place
THEN I can finish weld the brake line brackets on the frame

lots of little electrical odds/ends
have to deal with reverse lights > Need connectors from OG harness
Same with the 4X4 light > more connectors

I also need to get digital speed to ECM
However ALL my parts are mechanical

I do see an electric sender that can drop in place of the cable
Then I loose the dash speedo
Im looking into options for this... Anyone have a FIX??

I would like to know as well, I was planning on using a vw pump, but figured the output wouldn't be enough for my need.
