Um yeah. thanks for that lug nut.

Back to the thread.

Everything in the garage and started unpacking it all

so much extra space in front of the motor

Removing a few things in preparation for cleaning it up.

stuff I'm not looking forward to

Here is an 012 transmission out of a 99 Passat, V6 and starter setup. I will likely go with this kind of setup retrofitted into the MKIV bell housing

Tomorrow is busy, hopefully Sunday I'll get some time to work on the project. I'm putting together a list of parts

The 944 turbo is a great looking car, but the Panamera is definitely not appealing to my palet. Hopefully that's what Lug_Nut was saying too.

Have you decided on which injector nozzles yet?

My wife and I both love the Panamera! I guess we are some of the only ones!
I have really been wanting to do a Porsche conversion and even started a thread about doing it in an old 911. But then you get all of the nay-sayers that say "I can"t believe you are going to do that to a Porsche! And you will ruin it!" But I also had a 66 Mustang that we had restored completely original with the six cyl. I told them that I was going to put a 302/4-speed in it and then I started hearing about it! I did it any way and even though people kept telling me that a C6 won't fit. Yep, it will. Look under there! :D
Good luck and a great car to get your start!!

I haven't decided on nozzles yet. I'm about 75% sure I want to just get it up and running with the GTB2056VL and do the remainder of the upgrades another time(next winter likely).

Nozzles will likely be Firad +100% but I'd be open to others - definitely bigger than R783.

I'm a nay-sayer when it comes to LS1 swaps... the way I see my TDI swap is that my car already has Audi parts in it from the factory :D

I was gonna suggest R783s, if not something bigger in an earlier post. What are your power aims? R783s should be good for a "true" 260bhp without too excessive an injection window. If 300bhp would satisfy you, it may be a good idea to ditch the WG turbo and swap over to a 2260VK. With a ported head and possibly some bigger valves, the 2260VK should flow enough to cleanly burn the amount of diesel required - probably from some Firads.

Ash :)

Very nice, I think the firads would be a good choice. I'm waiting to see how O.C. TRI's car does with the firads installed. Anyways, great project. It will be a really fun car with a diesel installed.

I thought it was entertaining. Not sure what the problem was.

Awesome project! Can't wait to see it come together! The 944 is such a great car, and good looking in turbo cladding to boot! Good luck with the build!

Wow, +160% would be nuts, what kind of power would that support?

Not much progress the past couple of days, the head is hanging out on top of the block right now to make some room. I might have to relocate the oil filter/cooler to make room for the Holset.

I spent some time on my spreadsheet and added turbo and intercooler efficiencies.

keep in mind, that 2056 map is not a GTB map, I have created a GTB2056VK map based on the boost response of an AHU/GTB2056VK setup. The response I have shown falls within the GTB map.

Based on 70% intercooler efficiency(and my potential inaccuracies), intercoolers between stages and post, I should maintain ~55C IAT
Only post intercooler - 80C IAT, no intercoolers - 220C IAT.

the HE341 should be very close to the HY35, same size housings and supposedly the same wheels.

The turbine housing and turbine wheel are the same size however the hy35 has a 54mm compressor inducer while the he341cw has a 58mm inducer.
Also the hy35 was used from 2000-2002 and the he341cw was used on the 03-04.5 cummins 5.9 so I'm kind of confused about what map you actually have there.

I might suggest using a smaller primary turbo with a 50mm comp inducer mabye ?

I have used an inexpensive T3/T4 no name wastegated turbo with a 50 mm inducer and had good results while feeding a turbo similar in size to your 2056.

Just some food for thought.

Thanks for the info Andy! Its all the same stuff in the diesel truck world ;)

As far as maps go for this turbo, this is about the best one I could find, between HY35, HX35 and HE351, most of the maps were very close - HE351 was far enough to the right to stay away from. I went with the HE341 because I was going to go with the HY35, it also has a small turbine housing.

The inducer is definitely 58mm. For the money I paid($250) I'd happily test it and try again.

update - I moved the HE341 map to the right and it should still be happy - the GTB2056VL makes up for it.

That wont fit your block :( the mounting face is not the same, blocks are different on later engines.

AZV/BKD have the same block, check in Etka, the gasket p/n's are different from a BKD to an ASZ (a Golf mk4)

They all use the exact same oil cooler!
