Really? Any CK-4? Any weight? Used to be that only 5W40 was recommended.
No, I definitely needed to specify 5w40. But my point was that PD engines can use API-rated SYNTHETIC oil and do not require VAG 505.01.

I buy my oil at the local VW dealer parts department. It is Castrol Edge Professional LL03/507.00 Spec 5W30 Engine Oil, and cost me (just bought some yesterday) about $8 a liter, $8.74 with tax. They don't make any money on it. Dealer is cheap, easy, and nearby for me. Now some dealers may tack on 50% sucker walk in retail charge. I bought my car there, and they know me. Most parts guys have authority to give you the wholesale price, or if not wholesale price they can not fully gouge you. Based on my research $10/L with tax, is a fair going price. So at $8 I am doing well. Which reminds me I need to go buy 5 or 10 liters just to stock up.

I Googled Walmart which has a case of 6 x 1 liter bottles of Castrol Edge Pro LL03/507.00, $56.88 free shipping, pick up at store. I assume they'll charge sales tax, which is 9.25% where I live. So it cost $10.35/liter with tax. The VW dealer is cheaper.

I once special ordered from NAPA a 5 liter jug of Top Tec 4200 Long Life 507.00 Engine Oil (5w-30). This is made by Liqui-Molly. I forgot what I paid a few years ago, but it is now $59 plus tax. Dealer wins again.

I see ECI sells a jug of Top Tec 4200 Long Life 504.00 / 507.00 Engine Oil (5w-30) - 5 liters for $53.49 free shipping and assume no sales tax... That works out to $10.69/liter. Again dealer is best price.

Ladies and Gents, we are going to pay about $9 to $11 Liter x 4.5 Liters/per oil change. It is good for 7,500 miles (or 10,000 if you want). There is NO CHEAP LL03 507.00 Spec 5-30w oil... It is pretty limited market. Frankly just finding this special oil can be a PIA for some folks.

I used $500 of my $1000 VW appeasement money to buy oil and filters. I recall I got 3 engine oil/filter changes worth of supplies, along with 1 DSG oil/filter change kit, air filter, fuel filter and cabin filter, with enough left over for an interior LED light kit and VW Jacket. I just did my last "free" oil change. I also did the DSG, fuel and air filter all at once just this week myself. I have nothing left of my free stuff, except one extra engine oil filter. Now I have to pay for oil next time... Booooo...

I just went to Walmart and bought oil for my motorcycle and scooter. I got 5 quarts of premium Castrol for $19. I saw Mobile 1 synthetic for $23 for 5 Qt (4.73 liter). That works out to be $4.86 a liter, half the price of our special TDI oil.

The special VW Spec oil for the TDI CR has a limited market. How would a TDI run on Mobile 1 or other oils? I don't know and don't want to find out. I pay two times the price of conventional oils like the rest of you...

I just get the 6 quarts of oil (Total Quartz Ineo) and oil filter kit from ID parts for $50.95 plus $5.00 shipping. Deducting filter cost, that’s $8/qt to my doorstep.

I am seeing on facebook posts that people are getting a net price on delvac1 of $12.50 after a coupon/rebate, they bought it for $29 at truck stop.

https://mobiloil.com/en/promotion/mobil-promotions/60-off-diesel-domain
I don't normally look for motor oil at truck stops, but the last time I did the Mobil Delvac I was closer to $40/gallon. That's why I was so pleasantly surprised to find it for $24.50 at the local Mill's Fleet Farm -- so only $12.50 after the $12 rebate. I'm told that my rebate check is on the way.

Mobil 1 ESP X1 0w30 for $4 a quart after rebate!

This deal is back again. Mobil 1 ESP X1 0w30 MOB121218 for $6 per quart at Napa Auto Parts until August 31st. They don't stock this at many locations but they can ship it for free from a warehouse to your local Napa the next day. Napa also has Mobil 1 0w40 European Car Formula MOB112628 for $6 a quart and Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5w40 MOB122271 for $33.50 per gallon.

Mobil 1 ESP X1 0w30 MOB121218 does not list VW 507 00 on the label but it is a low ash low SAPS oil. Strangely it lists VW 507 00 builder approval for ESP X1 0w30 on the Mobil website but not on the label. Most (maybe all) VW 507 00 oils are 5w30 weight.

There is a new $12 rebate promotion for 5 quarts of Mobil 1 purchased from August 1st through Oct 31st. You can do 2 rebates for a total of $24.

If link doesn't work, just search slickdeals.net for Rotella T6

It's funny you mention this, I picked up 3 sets worth of oil changes.. however the tdi doesn't like it as much... I had liqui moly top tec 3, vw507 in there, also archoil ar9100 additive, friction modifier. I change oils at 3500 miles, and I'm glad I do it.. let me know what you think about the mobil1 esp 0w30, this guy lists 5w30 esp rated at 113000 psi holding pressure which is pretty good but it drops I think to 77,000 after 270 degs, which i think the turbo hits easily,

It's a huuuge article, use search function for diesels and sniff through ;)

Is there any deals for 505.01?
Also is there a substitute I can use?
I’m here in Texas US
TDI Club members have been using API-rated oil in PD engines since about 18 months after the PD engines arrived in the US and Canada. Back then they were CH-4 rated oils like Shell Rotella T and Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck. Specs have changed and the current spec is CK-4.

At first people thought the VAG 505.01 oil was needed to protect cam lobes. But the PD cams have failed regularly even when the 505.01 oil was used.

I don't have a PD engine, but if I did I would not hesitate to use one of the widely available API-rated oils. You might start a new thread to ask people how their engines have fared when not using the specified oil.

I just got a 5L jug of Pentosin HP2 for $28.79 at RockAuto. No idea if this is a sale price, and if so, for how long.

$39.xx total including a Mann filter & shipping, not bad.

Alternatively, not quite as cheap, but for local purchase, Napa carries the Liqui Moly oils. Your local store may not have all types in stock but should be able to order it in a day or so. For the PD/505.01 oils, it's currently $43.49 for the Diesel High Tech and $45.49 for the Top Tec 4100.

For those of you in Canada,
Canadian Tire has pennzoil euro LX 0w30 (vw507) in 5L jugs on sale for $31.34. Plus pennzoil has a $10 mail in rebate for each 5L jug. So $21.34 for a jug of vw507 oil is pretty cheap up here in Canada land!

UFA has the 18.9L pails on right now for $129.

shell has a $35 rebate going on right now.

thats 18.9L of t6 for $95... good luck beating that. its usually $167 at wal mart.

Canadian tire has it for $133 right now, so all Canadians can get the deal and not just Alberta residents. $133-35 is $98 for 18.9L

Wallmart -

today on their website they're quoting

Castrol Edge 5w-30 LL
5 qts
$28.80

Is this " fake news " - seems much less than what others are quoting -
even tho quoted as 507.00 - maybe not ???

Thanks for any replies

( up till now I had been using mobil 1 European ( 505 ) for pd motor
and now Mobil 1 " ESP " ( 507 )for my 2016 jetta )
