cabin air filter location 97 jetta

Hi all, am looking for my cabin air filter on my 97 jetta with aaz engine (mexican made for can market), no filter under plastic cowl cover in the engine comparment , just a rough plastic grate covered air inlet. Next , under the glove box passenger side . Also nothing but the duct work.
did the 97 jetta aaz not have one ????

You will not find one on a MK3. But a MK4 cabin air cleaner will bolt right in under the cowl cover.

Not many of the Mk3 cars had them, in fact I think the only ones to get them were the VR6 cars. I could be mistaken though but I think it's shown in the Bentley for Mk3. At any rate no base car would have had one, so GL or TDI cars would not have had them.

Rosebud68 is right though, a cabin filter housing from a Mk4 bolts into place just like it belongs there. Steve

I've swapped them from the GLX (VR6) to the GL models before and it only takes a few minutes. I've never swapped an A4 one on though, that's interesting and good to know.
