I've got some almost new 195/65/R15 91T snow tires that I'd like to continue to use. The new (to me) sportwagen has a 195/65/R15 full sized spare, but the rim is plastered with max 80 km/hr stickers. I didn't write down the load rating of the spare, so maybe that's the reason for the stickers. The current tires on the car are rated 91H and the snows are 91T, so I'm good with the load correct? I don't see anything stopping me from getting some 15" steelies and using the rest of these tire up.

I checked the spare rim size, 6Jx15H2. Can anyone tell me that the H2 is for? I also was able to get the offset off the rim (ET47) so I'm not too worried about getting that wrong.

current tires are the stock 205/55/16 91H Hankook

Do VW's that come with steelies and hubcaps are limited to 80 kph? Of course not.

It's a CYA sticker, especially, with a full-size spare, they put that sticker due to having a fresh tire when the other 3 can be worn.

Of course, you can replace that wheel with an alloy wheel, but who does 5-tire rotations anymore? (to equalize the wear on all 5 wheels/tires)

What car do you have? You're in a MKVI forum, your sig says 2014 JSW. If so, 15" wheels won't fit over the front brakes.

If you now have a '15, I think you have a compact spare, hence the speed limit. However, my '12 Golf had a full size spare and the same stickers, I think it's the lawyers talking.

Regardless, if you have a '15 GSW you can run 15" snows no problem. I'm considering same for my car, but may go with 16s because tire options are so limited for 15s. And the 16s are only one size larger (205 vs. 195).

sorry, thought it was a little argumentative.

the point is that vw listings also include a steel wheel that retails for $60. my suggestion is that the $60 wheel is lighter than the $210 one, which could go with a warning not to use it full time.

That's a stretch. VW does have a practice of reducing the price on certain items in order to reduce its stock, to reduce costs of storage on VW's.

VW a while back had a big sale on Savannah 19" wheels from the Tiguan, where they a bunch of stock that was lighter than the rest of the Savannah wheel inventory, thus not as safe?

It is not a compact spare. Full sized 195/65/R15 on a 6Jx15 rim with 47mm offset. I was just confused about the stickers on it.

I'm confused about which version I have. "VW MKVI-A6 Golf family including Jetta SportWagen (~ 2010-2014) " doesn't include my 2014 wagen? has the same body style as the '12.

In retrospect, I'm sorry I posted. I know that 15's will fit because the spare is a full size 15. I was just wondering about the stickers. Maybe the "H2" designation on the rim means that it will explode over 80km/hr

I haven't really found any problems finding a decent 195/65/15 tire.

Edit: found some 15" steelies off a rabbit with 45mm offset. Should I sweat the 2mm offset difference and keep looking for 47mm wheels?

If you have a 2014 Sportwagen a 15" wheel won't fit over the front brakes. Not sure why that spare is in there, perhaps someone swapped it out. 16" wheel is the smallest that will fit.

If you're skeptical try it out. Better to find out at your leisure than when you have a flat.

The 15" rims from my golf cleared the brakes although I wasn't able to bolt them up due to the bolt pattern difference. The 15" spare also fits.

Do you have a source for the 15" not fitting? Maybe the reason for the warning stickers on the spare is that there is a min clearance rule for caliper clearance.

the source is the internets and vast amount of history.

Is this a wagon or a regular golf? that's probably the biggest difference.

It just occurred to me that everyone on this forum is assuming TDI. It ts the 5cyl 2.5L

That is probably the difference. More torque tdi motor probably has bigger brakes.

nah details never matter when discussing things on the internet.

I thought you had a small block chevy slipped in that golf.
