If you are mechanically inclined, it is not that difficult. I found it to be more time consuming than anything else.

PM me your email and I can send you a couple of DIY guides to help you out.

I would find a guru to do it, does the car still run, when my HPPF went I was in limp mode but it drove, if that is the case I would tow it right to the dealer one block over from them and limp in, if it does not run Used Hppf is the way to go sadly.

If it was still limping along, it wouldn't be an issue, as I would do just that - tow it to the buyback dealer, and limp it in. Unfortunately, it only limped about 1 block before the injectors were likely plugged up and it'd not run anymore.

I've got the used parts and assistance I need I think to do the work, hopefully will be starting soon. Even after doing the work, I'm still only going to tow it to near the dealer and drive it in.

If you are successful, I would put all the trashed parts in a box and leave them in the trunk. But that's just me.

Just to update. I did the repair, with a used HPFP and Aux Pump, and used injectors, and a lot of cleaning of the system, with the excellent tool, parts, and instructions help of a couple members of the forum here. The car was returned to VW yesterday without any complication.

Such a relief, and thanks to the community for helping!

The CJAA with CP3 pump, DPF delete, serpentine belt guard is as bullet
proof as any previous VW diesel (and would be about as dirty). If the turbo
fails in a way it pumps oil into engine, that is bad. No real fix except if your
lose power stop immediately... Turbo's are not reliable on any car. With DPF
delete Turbo should be more reliable. [Disclaimer I do not have DPF delete nor
promote it.]

German cars in general are less reliable and cost more to own and repair.
This is not news, they are not the same as a 2008 Camry or Honda Civic...

With that said there are many CJAA TDI's past 250,000 miles with no
problems. It happens. Anyway it is old news. My car has 90K, keeping
it and has HPFP warranty to 120K. I will decide to repair (if offered),
sell back (or just sale if I can get more), or opt out in mid late 2018.

I am happy for now. I know of all the issues and can mitigate them or
protected by warranty. I enjoy the car and average +40 MPG with torque
and nice handling and amenities, not to mention 69 cu-ft cargo area, which
I use on occasion for greatutility...
