I recently put a stage 2 clutch with a lighter single mass flywheel and my tranny rattles crazy loud. As soon as you push the clutch in it goes away. tranny level is good. Is this normal? i've heard that it is but it is really loud.

Did you originally have a single mass flywheel? They tend to be a bit noisier.

I've done a few DMF to SMF conversions. Each one has a different audiable level of that gear rattly noise you hear when converting it to a single mass. Not really much you can do, except go back to DMF.

This ^^^^^^

PH
My noise went away with my new transmission, same clutch and pressure plate. Half the miles on transmission and no more noise. Oilhammer pointed out the reason for the noise when I was considering new clutch, he was right.

Thanks, the flywheel is alot lighter so that would contribute quite a bit I guess. I will put in a new input shaft bearing next time I have it apart too to see if that changes anything. Tranny has 550000km on it so it could have some worn parts.

had A mkiv dmf with 60k, it rattled like a tin can with marbles. I got present golf and wrecked the dmf, got a new trans with smf and it’s the quietest one yet. 21lb flywheel helps.

Could my crank dampener be causing more vibrations? its probably worn out or all leaked out.

Never seen one yet - my 03 has 315k miles on it... What weight SMF and what brand clutch setup did you go with. my 21lb SMF south bend in my 04 is smooth and quiet.
