just snapped off my dip stick tube 04 jetta.

ordered one coming in a couple of days

I remove left over plastic from base and cleaned,

then i took 3/4 Elec. shrink wrap tubing about 2" long

slipped it over old dip stick tube, seated tube back on

divided shrink wrap half on tube and half on base tube

then took a heat gun to it, so far so good. just throwing it out there!

just drove about 80 miles and its perfectly sealed, of course you can't pull on it!

This comes in perfect timing for me, mine just snapped and I'm waiting on a replacement to arrive Monday. Unfortunately I need to drive the car in the meantime and have been trying to think of the best way to temporarily fix the issue, this just might be it!

it worked really nice for me. I'm thinking i could drive for a long time as long as i don't pull out the stick!

How do these snap off?

Is it from pulling the dip stick out at an angle instead of straight up?

not really, pulled mine straight up. I think they get old and brittle.

My guess is from going through heat/cool cycles and get brittle over age. Mine made it 15 years and snapped.

when mine broke I just made up a metal knob and pinned it on the stick at such a length that it just uses the metal tube in the block

The engine cover supports the tube. If you don't use the cover it's easy to move it laterally and eventually it'll break.

Wine cork in the hole also works great as a temporary fix.

I used a tube maybe 5/8” ID, cut to the proper length for the dipstick with a hose clamp to secure it, so I could still check the oil until the new tube went in. I use it as a back up now. Everything seems to get brittle with age.

Haha I just replaced the one on my new car, previous owner broke it. Anyway I super glued and wrapped with duck tape, rhino tape whatever you call it. Did the job great lol

New one arrived from the dealer, same part number but for whatever reason the bend wasn't right so it wouldn't line up with the cover, used a heat gun and straightened it out. Perfect now.

I was in my local Advance the other day and they actually had them on the shelf with other oil stuff like drain plugs and wrenches. I bought one a few years ago when my son had his Jetta, I couldn't wait for one to be shipped....
