The dealership (two buyback specialists) never even started my car. So unless they saw me drive up, they never started it, never drove it, etc. Nothing. They checked to make sure the VIN matched, removed my expired license plate, and 5 mins later we were done. So, all you with a DPF Delete, aftermarket mods, etc. have no fear.

I'm sure once the inspection is done (post-buyback) they will send my poor baby to the crusher. Maybe they will fix it, but I doubt it. 191K miles... body/interior in great condition. Anyone's guess...

No, I'm expressing serious frustration at VW, who doesn't seem to be willing to say it either. Neither at the no-help line, or from anyone who will answer a phone at a dealer (including the "buyback ambassador"). What's difficult about saying....or putting on the non-useful FAQ..."here's what operable means". It's almost as much fun as getting a "what's covered" question answered by a medical insurance agent.

It's best for you to contact one of the plaintiffs attorneys. They can correctly interpret the settlement wording. Here's a page from the long form of the court docs. Just google the law firm to get their number.

I think I just might forget about a package of raw chicken that 'fell' out of my grocery bag in the trunk ;) Should produce as much of stink as this whole process has been.
I just pulled a wet bag from the trunk about 15 minutes ago that had some pooped and peed cloth diapers, some diaper covers, and some of my daughter's clothes. My wife forgot it and I'm assuming it's been there since Black Friday since that's the last time we drove the JSW

I am returning our 2, possibly 3 TDI's in perfect condition except for removing the TDI badges, memories for the tool box!

I emailed..and got a call back from someone at the law office. Which I commented on above somewhere on the thread. Also, got the title and release of lien from VW credit today...9 days (including the weekends) from payoff of the loan. So, tomorrow call the insurance claims agent and get the insurance check and the car released from the inspection lot and into my garage, where it will sit until turn in day. (With a trickle charger connected and periodic starts).

Replacement is either a 17 GSW SE or a Subaru outback 2.3i premium. Specs almost identical, as well as cost. Wife prefers the outback, I prefer the GSW. Probably going to come down to the question: how many cars has the VW dealer sold this month?

Has anyone towed their car just outside the dealer lot, and then driven in?

My car has the CEL, DPF, and glow plug lights all on :(
Dealer is about 6 miles from my house, and I don't want anything to happen on the way to the buyback appointment!

Just want to make sure they don't give me a hard time if I tow it and drop it just outside their lot.

Here's what Ajay at the law office told me:

The engine has to START, at the dealership. And it has to MOVE under it's own power. It does NOT have to go in reverse, do donuts, or run at highway speed. I'm intending on having mine taken on a flatbed to the dealership, unloaded in front of the showroom, and proving it will start and move a foot or two. And the dealer already knows this is the plan.

VW Customer Care was included in the Goodwill package so ... why not?!?

Sounds like a good plan if you're unsure of your car making it the whole way.

Probably just enough to get onto a car carrier trailer.

..... so

How do you get them off:confused:
I was going to try a heat gun and a plastic scraper, fishing line sounds great too! Hair dryer may be safer as the heat gun could bubble up the TDI Badge and or the paint...

This ship has sailed but we also went to a sign shop and got some black vinyl used for wrapping cars and stuck it down on the rear bumper at the trunk to cover up the scratches we had from loading and prevent further scratches. Worked like a dream!

I did, tow truck dropped me off in the middle of the dealer's parking lot, I drove the car about 100 yards and parked it. No one started or moved the car while I was there..

I'm swapping the decent tires with junkers from my mechanic. I'm planning to pull the radio, all the floormats, the truck mat, blocks, spare tire and jack. And maybe the cargo cover. Basically anything that might be useful on a new Golfwagon since that or a Volvo XC70 are the most likely replacements.

Am I missing anything good :) ?

To anyone who thinks I am doing anything immoral, this is a 2011 with 115k. Its been in a front end collision. And its trashed on the interior. It is 100% getting crushed.

Did your car have the DPF delete, tune and all that?

Thanks all for the input on towing and dropping at the dealer.

Cayman - I think I'm going to do exactly as you describe below.

Turned my Passat in today. Took less than 10 minutes. Swapped my 18" wheels with my daughter for her 16" wheels. Also, gave her my RNS Nav and put in her stereo from her Jetta. I only had one key. No problem with anything.

She may or may not appreciate that the next time she has to buy tires.

Probably true, but her tires were bald, and mine only had less than 10k miles on them, so for now she is happy.

70k miles on the wheels (but look like new) and never had any problems. Put Goodrich Comp 2 A/S tires on.....great tire, and very reasonably priced.
