need assistance new and need help

car started smoking on acceleration and no power at all. once it (catches) it acts like a gas engine would with a bad coil then clears up and is fine. does seem like it has over all lack of power too. came on all at once too. ive been a technician for 18yrs but very limited on diesel experience. any advise would be helpful.

Do you have access to vag-com? I'd be interested to see what the balance is on the injectors, see what codes are stored, what the timing looks and what the IQ setting is at.

Does this happen when the car is still cold, and you floor it, or try to accelerate quickly?

If so, it almost sounds like "warp field collapse", but I'm not sure if it happens on the ALHs.
