Replacing Fuel Temp Sensor

i've have the replacement part which does indeed look like a part in the pump. however, the existing sensor won't pop out. should it pop out or is it normal to have to take it off in bits and pieces?

It is not supposed to 'pop out'. You must remove two screws. Please, do a search of the forums. This topic is pretty well covered, with pictures.

screws were obscured by fuel. thanks for the quick help

If you have a 1Z engine it is held by 2 torx screws. It is a straighforward pull out and put the new one in, then replace the top of the pump. I used a new gasket for the top of the pump for good measure as well. I had to to do my fuel temp. sensor replacement to get VAG-COM on scale to do my injection pump timing. Why are you replacing yours?
