I've posted this before, possibly on this thread. Damper ride quality is (a) heavily dependent on the vehicle the dampers go on; and (b) very subjective. What works great on one car may not on another. I like Bilstein TCs on MKIII and B4 TDIs, not on MKIVs.
And what is a controlled ride to some is too harsh to others. Neither person is wrong, it's just a matter of what you like. Some people feel Koni Reds on MKIVs are too soft. I had HDs on my Wagon years ago and hated them. Way too firm on that car. But others swear by them. Subjective.
