Default 06 BRM starting issues, surging, stalling

Warning: wall of text - looking for where to start on this problem. The local garage hasn't been able to nail it down yet. Feels to me like an intermittent electrical fault.

Our once-reliable Jetta has started giving us issues that we are having trouble nailing down. I've run Vag-com a few times but nothing definitive seems to be showing up. The vehicle is a 2006 BRM w/DSG and no mods.

Recent history: May 2012 260km replaced camshaft owing to worn lobes. August 2012 272km replaced Turbo as it was full of gunk (thanks to lobe#3 and the camshaft).

At 291km on July 24 2013 vag-com showed problems in 01-Engine, 02-Auto Trans, 03-ABS, 44-Steering Assist with malfunctions (along with others unrelated like a bad speaker. At this time the engine would stall after starting, under load (acceleration, up hills) would seem to skip and surge with power.

01: Engine
001618 sensor reference voltage B
P0652 - 000 - too low - intermittent

02: Auto Trans
18256 DTC memory of Engine Controller
P1848 -000 - intermittent

03: ABS brakes
01314 - engine control module
013- check DTC memory -intermittent

44: steering assist
01314 -engine control module
013 - check dtc memory

Between then and the past month the power skips and surges were minimal without rhyme or reason as to when they'd appear.

In the past month (around 295km) it is hard to start sometimes (warm or cold weather) and other days is fine. Hard to start days means that it won't stay running long either. Power skips and surges are much more noticeable too. It has seemingly stalled coming up hills on highways with the Traction control, low oil pressure and glow plug light coming on and flashing along with the tachometer failing, but the engine keeps running. I pull off to the side and restart the car to clear these alarms.

Here's the edited log after the latest event with sections removed that contained no errors:

Inspect the engine wiring harness for chaffed wires inside the plastic loom. Been many of us that have had to replace this harness for various reasons, one being hard starts.

sounds like wiring harness...

check the large loom of wires, running across the front of the engine and transmission. (you will have to remove the air box to see it)

Yep, found a couple of small wires on the outside of the harness that were chafed right at the same spot. Corroded up a few inches from there, too. A solder splice and wrapping the whole harness in 3M 700 electrical tape cured it.

Thanks to Bob and this thread http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=239987
