Yikes.. 50k!

Hate to say it, but I don't think a nicely equipped Tiggy TDI would come in a whole lot less than that. I'd still rather spend money on the VW, but it's nice that there will be a option now.
Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel is about $50K too! Vehicle prices are rising.

No TDI's for now, 2014 Cruze Turbo Diesel
The GLK250 is a very nice ride. My father just bought one and it runs very nicely. Room to spare in the front and back. Personally I couldn't spend 50k+ on a car, so I'm driving the Cruze Diesel and have a SportWagen targeted for a 2015 purchase.

He's getting a combined 30mpg, with a computer readout of about 35mpg on a long all highway drive. This is already better than advertised and the engine is no where near broken in.
