2000 Jetta TDI 5spd, 1st gear is getting hard to get into at a dead stop. It will engauge with no grinding, but it hangs halfway through the shift. If I shift to second, then first it seems to clear it a bit. Sound like the clutch (factory clutch)? or possibly need to bleed the system? I can't see the reservior from the engine bay, maybe I'm blind!

Is there a bleeder valve for the clutch system then? I got the motive power bleeder and did all four calipers last time I changed pads and ATE Superblue fluid. I didn't know they were a common system.

You might want to try adjusting the linkage at the transmission. The upper cable of the linkage has a bolt in a slotted hole. If you loosen the bolt with the car in neutral and push back on the lever arm a little then re-tighten the nut it usually helps with first gear issues.

Thanks cage, Ill check that out tomorrow after work. I'll also bleed the slave cylinder just for good measure.
