Long story short: 2003 Jetta 5-speed. Overheated, blown head gasket and warped head. I fixed it. But the California registration expired. And I decided to move to Arizona (that's a longer story).

So; I got a 1-day moving permit, and without much test driving; put a 4'x8' flatbed trailer on the back with about 1200# of belongings, and drove it 620 miles over 12 hours. I averaged 28 mpg. So. . . risky trip, but SUCCESS!

On two occasions, right after starting up after stopping to fill the tank (and putting in some Power Service) - (this is a new fuel filter), I got a CEL, with a P0252 code. I'm guessing that either there's crud from the old fuel from the original overheat, or when I took the injectors off, or maybe the thermo-t bypass is still leaking air bubbles into the filter.

This is a problem because, (if it keeps re-occurring) now I need to get it smogged and registered in Arizona. I have 90 days.

(And holy cow! Diesel is so cheap in Arizona!)

I've done a couple of searches, and it seems that this code is either a bad filter, (so I ruled that out) crud in the fuel, or an air leak. I thought I would ask the list if anyone had any other ideas I might try. (the big mistake I made was leaving my mighty-vac back at home, but I do have some of my other tools. I plan on making a couple more trips but I'm not sure when).
