Oil Change Reminder vs. Interval

If the interval recommended by VW is 10,000 miles (as I intended) why do I get an oil change change reminder at about 6,000 miles?

I changed my engine oil just shy of 40,000 miles and reset the maintenance warning. I am now at 45,000 and am being told to schedule an oil change.

Am I missing something?

Did you set the warning for 10k miles? Has the dealer had the car? They seem to reset them to whatever they think it should be. You should be able to reset it to whatever you want. I just do mine at 10k 20k 30k etc. No minder needed.

I did the oil change myself. However, it was the first oil change in my possession after the buyback. I was not aware I could change the interval - assuming that’s what happened. I wasn’t sure how advanced the sensors were; although I doubted it, I thought maybe it could sense driving conditions and thus oil cleanliness.

The Euro models have that function but not in the US. Here it is just a static value set in memory. When that many miles pass it dings at you.
