do you have to remove the top tray, the centre vents then the radio on the 2009 Jetta ? or can you use the removal keys to just remove the radio? thanks!

Use an old credit card to lift them out. There is a howto on vortex faq with pictures.

Here you go. No special tools required. This thread is about installing a device that plugs into the back of the radio. Therefore it includes complete instructions for removing the radio. A trim removal tool is helpful, but not necessary. A torx screwdriver is needed.

If it is like 06 Jetta you can easily set an airbag code if you don't follow instructions very carefully! Then you will need someone like me who has VCDS that can turn off the air bag code or the dealer. You will also fail inspection if your state has one with the code.

In addition to the instructions in the link provided above, you may find it easier to pull top vents if you gently pry loose the lower trim as well. Careful, it is screwed in at the top. Best to gently pry from the bottom(start with a credit card in the lower corners and move your way up). This will help to unclip the top piece from the bottom piece. Once you get the top piece off, you can unscrew the bottom piece.

The torx screws are T-20.
