I purchased a 2000 Jetta TDI a few months ago with 61k miles on it. I bought it for $8900. I'm not sure if I got a good deal or not, but would like to think so. I was reading somewhere where the timing belt would need to be changed around 60k miles but I have no idea how this car was serviced before. When do I need to get the timing belt serviced? I love the car so far and want to do what is right to keep it running good. Does any one know of a good TDI mechanic in my area? West Monroe Louisiana.

Can you find out from the previous owner when or if the timing belt was changed? Otherwise you are overdue for a TB change and ought to do it ASAP. Just make sure you get the new 100k TB and tensioner. (Note, if your Jetta is an automatic, the TB should have been changed at 40k.)
