Hi I have an Audi A3 1.9 bxe engine 2007 my problem being white smoke on startup then clears once warm, no coolant loss no oil loss no misfire I’ve rebuilt injectors set back lash checked tortion value all ok, my question being I have no power at the glow plug harnes well low voltage to only 3 1.5v and one dead! Do the glow plugs get used on each start up for emissions to burn off excess diesel? If so since I’ve replaced the gp relay x4 plugs it’s looking like a faulty harness I’ll have to splice & replace!

What does the smoke smell like? Unburned diesel or engine oil? If it is unburned diesel, then you'd think glow plugs, but if it smells like engine oil there's a good chance it is valve stem seals.

What DTC's (fault codes) have the ECU set? The problem could be a faulty CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor). Try unplugging the CTS and the ECU will assume a temp of something like -40F and schedule max glow plug duration if everything else in the glow plug system is working correctly.
