Out of interest, does anyone know if a 2.0 CR head would mate to a 2.0 PD block?

Would be quite not good as the PD has quite high CR and different bowl designto start with, so atleast changing the pistons would also be rquired

How come all of the sudden everyone seems to be so excited about CR. And only few years ago when everybody else except VAG was using CR, the general opinion here was that CR is crap? :D

If only VW would listen to Audi, as Audi had dropped PD long time ago, and VW would have been in the same league as rest.
As it's now VW painfully through the consumers paying royalties to AR & MB for using CR technology

because all the treads of the calipers were damaged, a colleague of mine
fitted them with helicoils... now that is finished I ordered a set of Goodridge RS4 lines
and a set of Hawk Ceramic Performance pads...

now need to paint the calipers gloss black, put on new Porsche decals,
buy two new bridge pipes, order a set of discs and fit it all...

Did your calipers had treads? mine hadn't.. I just used a 16mm tube with 1mm wall thickness and then bolts with nuts..

no, I meant the threads of the bleeders :(
mine also have bushes to be able to use M14 bolts instead of M16...

ahh, bad.. how can that be? mine only had one of these small brake lines crushed in shipping.. so ordered one new.. thank god you can place this line at top and bottom of te caliper, otherwise it would be quite tricky to bleed them installed on the car :d

the bleeders were probably stuck due to oxidation...
I had a set of 996 rear calipers of which I took the bleeders and
ordered two new bridge pipes...

just bought these....:p

does the calipers fit pnp with the discs you have?
yep...
only downside is that the disc doesn't sit fully centered in the caliper...
but the US guys don't seem to have any problems...

- Cayenne 17Z calipers with bushes to go from M16 to M14
- RS4 stainless lines
- Hawk Ceramic Performance pads
- Mercedes C240 Sport 330x28 discs (need center bore slightly enlarged and bigger bolt holes)

hmmz.. I had to mill around 4mm of the mounting tabs of the calipers to make the rs4 discs (360x32mm IIRC) be in te center of the caliper, unfortunatly the calipers are slightly too far inwards mounted, so I had to shave the discs down to around 354mm to make them fit

for the 18Z calipers the 345mm ML55 AMG discs seem to be a good fit according to the boys in the US...

do these fit pnp on the A4? I only have 245's on the rear, altough when steering in hard in a corner while braking the inner rear wheel still tries to lock up before the front one

yes they should fit...
and if they don't... it is Johan's fault!! :D
the B6/7 hub should accept the same calipers the A3/S3 8P and Golf5 R32 use...

Nice to know; I was thinking about using the 288's in the rear which come stock on A4's with higher output than the 120hp I got

Do the A4 B6/B7 use different offset front discs to the Golf etc?

I've got my Mk3 caddy and a friends A4 Avant to build a big brake setup so need to get it right, haha!

Thanks for the write up and info!

those would be nice indeed...
but hard to find... I couldn't anyway ;)
Johan has a set of 286x12 iirc from an 8P...
but this set is missing a caliper...

if I am correct, the Golf5 shares the brake setup with the A3 8P and A4 B6/7...
but I have never seen it in real life... so no promises ;)

the offsets do differ...
but if the caliper bracket compensates for this it is ok...
I do need to lathe the hub bore of the 8P discs from 65mm to 68mm to fit my B7 hubs...
