I'm sorry to resurrect a seemingly never ending topic, but I have to know for my specific case. I monitor my regens on my scan gauge and whenever it's performing one and I'm at speeds over 20mph, there is no smell. But when I'm going under 20 or idling, I can smell a pungent sweet smell. Definitely an exhaust type of smell. It's definitely noticeable, but not thick and something to choke on. Should I get it checked for leaking seals?

Nope. It stands to reason if you have any speed at all any smell will be behind you. The regen event does create some unique smells.

Pungent-sweet, IME is coolant. Check your coolant. Make sure it's not leaking, and if it is, find the leak and fix it. Hopefully it's not your head gasket.

It could very well be. I used to notice on my 2013 Passat every once in a while I would smell what I thought to be coolant. Never found a leak or saw the level drop though.
