Welcome! We're not too active here, unfortunately.

Howdy! I live out between Rosenberg & Needville. Just picked up a 2015 Passat SE from Momentum on Kirby (I still call them Mahan VW).
I have a great Powerstroke mechanic out be me, but will need a good TDI mechanic. Can anyone suggest one either SW of Houston (Sugar Land) or in the Clear Lake area?

Welcome! I don't have an answer to your question but I'm in clear lake and German Precision Auto and Stuehrk Automotive were suggested to me but i have no experience with them yet.

As more of the 'fixed' TDI's hit the road, I hope we'll have more activity in this section.

Sadly not in Clear Lake. However, if you're willing to travel. Das European Autohaus is in Spring. Certified master mechanic, Christian knows all. When it comes to VW/Audi/Porsche/MB/BMW.

It is out of your way, but they have the answers to your questions.

Just be mindful that 'Das European Autohaus' will be on the pricey side.

I found these guys through Google. Go look at their reviews. Judge them not on cost, but what they have to offer you.

Yes, I spend my hard earned money there. But I go back there, because of the quality of work. That for ME, is worth spending a little more money on.

Every one is entitled to their opinions. I am not trying to sound like a jerk. And apologize if I come off that way. I just want their to be fair judgement.

Fair points above. However when the difference of a cost for a timing belt job is several hundred dollars with one of our out of town 'TDI Gurus' (see sticky thread) then taking a trip to the Dallas area does not sound so bad :-)

Not here to argue. Someone new asked for help local to him. I gave the best answer I have. It may not be the best for everyone. But the best for me, and I'm happy to stand by my opinion. If the new members want to go to Dallas, awesome. They have the car for the trip.

Best of luck, LongHorn, on whatever your choices are. You will always find good answers on this forum.

Where is the 'TDI Gurus' sticky? Is it the 'Trusted TDI Mechanics - By State' sticky in the TDI 101 section?

The idea behind the 'Trusted TDI Mechanics' is to bring together a list of TDI specialists that share the ideals behind the creation of TDIClub including offering a reasonable and fair cost.

Unfortunately there is none in the Houston area and also Austin lost its only one in 2017. So that leaves the Dallas-Ft. Worth and San Antonio area as closest to Houston.

For some scheduled maintenance jobs such as a timing belt is good to know about the existence of 'Trusted TDI Mechanics' as some of them post their prices (such as Digi Sport Performance, LLC). Based on the information that I have compiled since I had my first TDI (August 2002), for a TDI timing belt done at a VW dealer in the Houston area or at one of the reputable VW specialized mechanics posted in this thread (Das European Autohaus being one of them) expect to pay approximately 45% more than someone in the 'Trusted TDI Mechanics' in the Dallas-Ft. Worth or the San Antonio area.

I think the beauty of TDIClub is that we can share this information and everyone can plan and make an informed decision to where would they like to take their TDIs if they can schedule it ahead of time.

I also understand that taking your TDI out of town for such work (even scheduled maintenance) is not practical/convenient for everyone.
