2012 Passat SEL TDI automatic. Timing belt or chain? 132K on the clock. Not sure if it’s a belt, was changed or not. Dealer did each and every service possible except one oil change.
I’m guessing this same dealer where it was purchased and serviced would have that information? Trying to stay on top of everything p.

Thank you.

It has a belt. The specified replacement interval is 130k miles. Idparts and Dieselgeek sell complete replacement kits.

Well, the V10 tdi has timing chains. But that is somewhat of an anomaly, so we can overlook that one. ;)

Ah, that's right. I just remembered that some of the Touaregs have chains. I guess it’s the 3L V6 tdi and not the V10. Which makes it far less anomalous. Quite a few of the V6's out there.

Belt replacement

Lucky for me, the local VW dealership replaced my timing belt at 125K. Yay. One less thing to worry about now!
In fact, the service manager knows this car—I’m second owner, and he said the previous owners were fanatics about maintenance. They did every single maintenance on the car that VW required and as needed. WooHoo.

a belt it a belt is a belt, why worry about the WP or rollers or tensioner?

Replace them when the fail I say!
