Has anyone been able to make their dealer appointments for modification through the VW claims portal? My portal is still stuck on that last step claiming "once there is an approved fix for your TDI you will be able to make an appointment here" Well the fix has been approved so it seems I should be able to make the appt.

It sounds like ppl are just contacting their dealers directly. Have you had any issues with your restitution money without going through the portal?

yeah the portal is done with you, dont look at it. You should have gotten an email. At this point you can call the dealer and just ask if your car (have VIN read) is in their system yet to be fixed. BUT you need to fix your email or whatever cause that is how you will be notified by Chase bank to set up the wire transfer for the payment.

I, too had the web site still say a fix is not yet approved, so I called the dealer.

When I dropped the car off, I had to speak on the phone while at the dealer to a person who verified my contact e-mail via phone, and wanted me to say I understood that the fix means no sell back.

(I turned in the loaner and got a ride home since we are headed out for the weekend. dropped the car off Tuesday morning at 7:30, and it still is not quite done. hopefully a few more days lets them get it finished. I did take a peak, and it caught a glimpse of the new pressure sensors and DPF. thermal blankets for the pressure sensor looks a little better than the foil tape I put on after changing out the pressure sensor.)

Now that I think about it, I will have to double check the connection on that sensor, I had snapped part of the electric connector and put a couple zip ties to keep it in place.

what is the new emissions system warranty on the 2009-2014 cars and does it include turbo and fuel pump like the 15s?

48 k miles or 48 months on engine, emissions, fuel, pumps.....

the manual cars get another six months or so

that doesnt sound right

pretty sure that pursuant to the settlement they are legally mandated to warrant the emissions system for the "life of the car" which they consider to be 11 years

Depends on your mileage at the time of the fix:
Manual trans:

And
Automatic trans:

That's not correct; there's nothing in there about "life of the car." The warranty mandated by the settlement is 10/120k from new, or 4/48k from fix, whichever is longer.

Mileage at the time of fix isn't the only determining factor. An '09 manual trans. Jetta with 950,000 miles still gets 4.5 years or 54k miles of warranty coverage from the date/mileage the fix is applied. Whichever comes first.

Exactly why I posted the VW link with the full definition so he could read the original in full.

But I should have said depending on the mileage and age to be more precise.

No; it's whichever is greater of (whichever comes first of age or mileage from new) OR (whichever comes first of age or mileage from time of modification).

Boolean logic ...

So if I have 50,000 miles on my 2011 jetta 6mt.. then i would get the 10 years or 120k miles? the time is close ( 4 years /10 years but the mileage ( 48k or 120k) is greater Thanx

Check out the link several posts back. It's really pretty simple. The first coverage option for the manual trans. cars is 10.5 years or 126,000 miles btw.

Let's assume you took delivery in Nov 2010 of your 2011 model year car (adjust as appropriate below) and had the fix applied this month (Aug 2017)

You have a manual, so yours would be the greater of:
(Nov 2010 +10.5 years = May 2022 or 126,000 miles on your odometer)
OR
(Aug 2017+4.5years = Feb 2022 or 50,000+54,000 = 104,000 miles on your odometer)

May 2022 or 126,000 (whichever comes first) is greater than Feb 2022 or 104,000 (whichever comes first) so yours would be until May 2022 or 126,000 miles on the odometer.

If you had an automatic, it would be the greater of:
(Nov 2010 + 10 years = Nov 2020 or 120,000 miles on your odometer)
OR
(Aug 2017 + 4 years = Aug 2021 or 50,000+48,000 = 98,000 miles on your odometer)

This one is tricky since the mileage of the first option (120,000 miles) is greater than the mileage of the second option (98,000) BUT date of the second option (Aug 2021) is greater than the date of the first option (Nov 2020).

Not sure how that will get interpreted. Pure boolean logic would say this theoretical car would get the best of both (Aug 2021 or 120,000 miles whichever comes first)

Forrestresto's car is a manual not an automatic.

I assume that's why he started the second scenario with "If".

So, if I plan to get the modification close to the 120,000 mile mark (I have 108,000 now) around July 2018....

54,000 miles + 120,000 miles = 174,000 miles

July 2018 + 4.5 years = Jan 2023

I would most likely hit 174,000 miles before Jan 2023 (after date of modification) - So Jan 2023 is "greater" - no?

Usually contracts/warranties state "whichever comes first"; however this one states "whichever is greater", so I assumed it was the later of the two.

Dropped off my 2010 Jetta this morning. My loaner is a brand spanking NEW loaded Passat TSI that had a whopping 12 miles on it. She said that it just became a loaner this morning. MAN does it ride like a dream. Told the wife about it after I left the dealership and she said "don't get spoiled"....TOO LATE! LOL

Strangetdi, order of operations in mathematics, the stuff inside brackets gets done first and those are whichever come first, then it's whichever is greater. It's not whichever is greater of all of the conditions involved.

My dealer never disappoints, I booked my fix over a week ago for today, I show up at the dealer at the scheduled time and they told me they don't have a loaner car for me and that I could come back another time or just not have a car for 2 days while they work on it.

You would think they could have called me and saved me a trip going down there. Maybe I will just wait a few months now. Just hope I don't have a wreck or one of the newly warrantied parts does not go out before then.

I don't believe in giving dealers a hard time, but not having a car available for you is unacceptable, and in violation of the court agreement. I'd reschedule the appointment, tell them you expect to have a car, and if they don't have a loaner suggest they rent you one. That's what other dealers are doing, because they're required to.

I dropped my car off last Tuesday morning. Thursday Late, I dropped the loaner off, and got a ride home. (we were headed out to see the totality of the eclipse. it was, by the way, quite a sight.)

today, back home, and it seems they still cannot get my car to take the emissions software update properly.

Now no loaners are available. (not a huge deal for me, but a possible lesson for others getting the fix)

Service rep assured me they (VW) would pick up the cost of a rental... but I am headed a few hours away for a work trip next few days. work will pay for a rental. (they would have paid me POV miles, but not for a car I do not own. cleaner this way)

I will miss logging regeneration behavior on the trip...

Looks like you shouldn't have been a nice guy to start with. Should have hung on to that loaner even if it was sitting in the driveway collecting dust.

Service rep called to let me know he has a loaner for me.

the remaining issue is the software update for the DSG.

I passed on the car. using a rental for a work trip. they should pay one way or the other, and it would not be right (or legal) for me to collect POV miles on a loaner...
will head out for a trip next week (we are taking our Sprinter RV on a trip around Lake Superior), they may end up with the car for a month.

^^I'm in for Sprinter RV pictures!

I dream about a Sprinter RV, but I'm happy car/tent camping out of my Golf TDI or a new GTI sometime in the future. Back in the early 1990s I drove a Golf gasser cross-country from my home near Philadelphia, to southern California, then up the coast to Washington state, and then back home again. I camped in 11 National Parks. It was awesome, especially the mountains, but the west coast was glorious too. I'm going back as soon as I retire, but this time I might add a drive to Alaska! I'll also probably stay in a few more hotels this time and use my credit card a bit more, but staying in the parks in a tent is a special experience.
