While 2/32 may be fine for dry roads and wet roads below highway speeds they are in fact very risky to drive at highway speeds and will dramatically increase stopping distances in emergency situations. So considering most of my commute is going between 60-70mph I thought it safe to just get new tires mounted.I faced a decision like that a while back, and decided to replace a pair of tires with new ones. The following Spring, I replaced the second pair. It just kills some folks to replace tires that still have some legal tread on them. When I replaced the first pair, I saved the "good" tire because I could not bear to throw it out.
I'm not just pulling facts out of mid air...
Here's some good info on tread depth:

A great video to better illustrate the difference between a 4/32 and 2/32 tire:

Care to share which ones exactly? My car came with stock Michelin's and I replaced them with Michelin. I'll run Michelin's only.
