I hear ya on the WRX but the TDI is overall waaay better suited for the driving I do. I actually haven't missed the WRX ("Rex") at all and haven't looked back.

80 each way. 5 days/wk. People at work think I am crazy. I'm only about half a mile from the highway at home and less than 5 miles from work when I get off the highway at the other end. Still hoping to get 800 miles per tank so I can fuel up once per week, but that won't be easy in a slushbox tranny PD

500 miles round trip to work here. I do it twice a month. 1000 miles/month. Doesn't compare to what a lot of you guys are putting on.

100 miles each way, 5 days a week. South Jersey to Aberdeen, Maryland. It works out to 1000 miles a week plus pit stops and whatever I drive on weekends. I've been doing this for 2 1/2 years and have at least 6 more months. So far the only unscheduled maintenance on my car has been the front wheel bearings. One went out, but I just changed them both. Working on my second timing belt in a couple of weeks.

Depending on the day, I can Drive ZERO, like today when I work from home up to 550 round trip in one day (every other week that one gets done). Normally though, I would say my average daily round trip is 190 miles. I do love tooting around on the highway and hate using our SUV that gets 20 MPG down hill when I have to repair the Jetta. My wife won't let me use the NB because she doesn't want me to drive it into the ground. I say it needs a good long trip to loosen it up!

I used to repair hardware for HP in a company car and did 6000 - 8000 miles a month. I wore out a brand new Ford Escape in 2 years... That was then, now I drive about 90 miles a day in my own TDI. If I beat the piss out of it, I get 48mpg... If I drive it nice and baby it, I get 49mpg. Needless to say I do a bit of both and for a long time I've average high 48's... Which is FREAKING CHEAP. A lot cheaper than a Corolla I once owned. The amount of time I spend in the car is sad... but with HP I learned to just get in the car and zone out until I get to my destination. Not exactly sure how this works and I can't say it's very safe... but its done me right for the last 5 years... haha! Knock on wood.

Well my commute is short by the standard set here but for me it is long. After 3 years of being able to bike to work I now have a 80 mile round trip commute. I use the time to listen to audio books. www.audible.com is awesome!
MPG in the morning commute is anywhere between 44-52mpg depending on how I drive and traffic. PM commute pretty much sucks 42 if I am lucky and takes ~30 minutes longer. I just can't leave in time to beat stop and go on CA 580 east

I did a 60 mile roundtrip commute for a year, then a 102 mile roundtrip commute for 1.5yrs, then a 10 mile rountrip for the last 5yrs and starting Monday....a 96 mile roundtrip. I've been spoiled for the last 5yrs, so I'm not really looking forward to it, but after reading what some of you do - it will be a cakewalk!! I'm estimating hour& 15min from my driveway to the timeclock or vice versa. It's a later shift, so traffic SHOULD be minimal. You could spit on my work's building from the interstate, but unfortunately it takes me 15-20 minutes to get to the interstate from my house.
Just bought my 1st TDI 3 days ago though - 97 Jetta - looking forward to the fuel economy. Lord knows I wasn't doing this drive in my Audi A6 quattro (22mpg) or Z28 convertible (17mpg).

I drive 54 miles each way to work, but thankfully only 3 days a week and work from home the other two. Audio books and podcasts keep me sane in the Atlanta traffic. Turned 224,000 miles on my NB this week, and it runs like top!
