Help! Cannot complete gerbox basic setting
Can somebody help? I have changed clutch in a Lupo 3L and have to do the basic setting. Using Vag-com 704. I set clutch value to 1,86V. It goes through the gear settings without problem until it comes to "searching" then it stops there. When it is ready it should say "ignition off" but it doesn't happen. I tried to change the clutch cylinder but still the same. Where do I go from here?

The current release of VCDS is version 10.6, maybe you should update your software....

I'm not convinced that that is the problem. The Lupo is a -00 so I think 704 would work perfectly for this car as it has done dozens of times before. It must be something with the car. Does anybody know what the program really does when it says "searching" . What is it searching for? What parameters is it looking for?
This is the Electronic Manual Transmission (085) used in Lupo 1,2 TDI 3l, Lupo FSI and Audi A2 1,2TDI 3L only so the basic setting is different from any other automatic gearbox.
And I forgot to say there is no fault codes.

Fuel Economy: whats that?

Perhaps changing to the newest version of Vag-Com will at least rule that out.

Tnx for the advices about updating SW. The problem is that my handy laptop uses Me and the latest VCDS version that not longer support Me.
Anyhow I have done the gearbox basic setting on two other cars with the same 085 gearbox afterwards without any problems so I still think that it is not a SW issue.
I did of course the autoscan but there is no fault codes in any of the modules.
Jeff can you or someone figure out what the SW does when it comes to the point of "searching" in basic setting for this 085 gearbox?
If I new which sensors etc are involved in this "searching" I can at least check them out.
tnx for all help

"Searching" is a status reported by the TCM. VCDS is simply waiting for the TCM to find whatever it is looking for and tell us that the Basic Settings routine has completed. We did have customer in the UK with a very similar problem a year or two ago, which ended up resolved, but I don't remember the details and won't spend any time researching this while you are using version 704.

Then contact us directly please -- Support[at]Ross-Tech.com. Assuming your system is legitimate, we will provide you with the last (but much newer than 704) version of VCDS which supports your obsolete Windows and will make a note in our files that you are using an ancient laptop. If you're unwilling to do that, please don't expect any help from us.

Issue solved but still not.
I 'll try to explain. When I dissembled the clutch there was a spring attached on the clutch arm dragging in the opposite direction of the slave cyl. I have never seen a spring there in any of the 3Ls and I realized that it was going to interfere with the clutch adjustment so I just didn't put it back.
Now I thought that maybe the spring still played a role so I put it back in place and now when I did the basic setting it finished the "searching" right a way.
(Note that this spring has no OEM part number)
So now I took away the spring and I could still finish the basic setting without any problem. I even tried to do it a few times without the spring and now every time without any problem. (all this still done with the 704)
Still not sure what was the real problem here but the car now works fine with smooth gear shifting and all.
Tnx for this great forum.
Ps
@owe
I.m planning to buy a new laptop then I can upgrade. Ds.
