Cool Fuel efficiency problem

I am a complete newbie to the tdi community but hav wanted to join for some time. I recently bought a used 1998 jetta from a private dealer. Right away I noticed I was not getting the mileage that I should be getting. Probably about 34 mpg. I took it to a diesel specialty shop (not a dealer) here in the milwaukee, wi area. They informed me that there is shaft play in the turbo. I understand this would explain the excessive oil consumption.

My question is: once this problem is fixed will I begin to see better mpg's

I hope to get some guidance here

thanks

mike

One thing you might do is attend the get together (GTG) in Milwaukee this weekend. A lot of members will attend, plus several top TDI pros.

Hey all,

Another newbie to the site here (got a 2010 JSW TDI few weeks ago).

Really just wanted to say thanks to all the folks here-

This is my first TDI, and your site, with all the info and posts really helped satisfy my curiosity about the TDI and helped with what I guess are the usual questions, what to expect ( have had great luck with mine and have been enjoying it a lot, btw )

Thanks!
- Steve

Recently moved back to Iowa from MPLS and living in Des Moines, Ia. Might be looking for a replacement for my 2004 VW Jetta Wagen TDI that sustained front end damage from rear-ending a Ford F150. Mot sure what the Insco is going to determine, but definitely exploring options. Appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

Hey Coach, welcome to the club! Nice to see another newbie here, esp. from the same area, seems we have a couple.
I just saw a blue 2010 TDI JSW parked in Davis Square today, maybe it was yours? Looked great!

I am loving mine too, it's been great and lot's of fun, just past the 1000 mile mark on break in, and seems to be getting smoother and more fun with each mile.

I'll keep a lookout for yours (mine is a black wagon with sunroof).

Have fun,
- Steve

Hi Can anyone help? My car started to stall occasionally and sometimes when i switch on the ignition the dash lights would flicker and car turns over but would not start sometimes. I replaced relay 109 and seemed to sort the prob for a couple of weeks, but now its doing it again, and the only dash light that comes on is the seatbelt light. When I turn on ignition switch I get a solid click from relay 100 (dont know what this does) but nothing from 109. Should it click? Any info would be a big help.

I probably have the newbiest of all newbie questions.

How do I find out the specs of my car? There's tons of post on these forums of TDI owner's wheel sizes, tank size, engine specs, their build date, which country their different parts were built/assembled, if it does or doesn't come with blue tooth or an ipod hookup, etc. I can't find any of this info in the manual I was given nor the papers I signed when I bought the car.

How can I find the specs of MY car?

Well I've had my car now for about a month a half and I'm loving it. I've gone on three road trips and enjoy only having to fill up once for each trip.
This site has been really helpful. So far I've done a diesel purge, an oil change, extended my remote range, cleaned my intake manifold and installed a coolant heater. Now that I've gotten those things out of the way I can enjoy driving it a little more. Thanks for all the help so far!
