Last April I filled up and had 570 miles on the odometer and took 13 gallons at fill up. I had more than a gallon left in the tank as i have been able to get over 14 in on fill ups in the past. the tank avg was less the 44 and my best avg was almost 46 so going over 600 should happen for me this spring if i ever get back to driving for mileage. I find myself less and less patient with my go pedal and more and more caught up in driving it for fun.

we are averaging 42-43 mpg on this roadtrip to Fl. Going 70-75 mph so I am sure we could do better if i want to get run over...

I had an 'aha' moment with this tank (705 miles using 13.3 gallons = 52.9 mpg). The previous tank I was getting 5 - 8% poorer mileage than I used to on similar trips. I theorized it was due to the cooler weather/winter blend. BUT I discovered that it was really the LACK of highway congestion (counterintuitive!). On my poorer-perforiming tank I was driving really late at night and early in the morning with essentially NO slow-downs on the highways. On contrast, my just-filled tank was more typical of metro NYC traffic when I 'pulsed and glided' whenever I saw traffic slowdowns ahead.

Turns out that I have been using pulse and glide as an important contributor to my relatively high mileage for an '09. Cool discovery for me, and I may end up doing some more "pulse and glide" when appropriate (e.g. - no traffic behind me, on flat terrain or down hills) even when I don't see congestion ahead.

Nice that you guys are getting close to 50mpgs, and thumbs up for a nice 09-2010 TDI cars, too bad that these cars are far from getting the good mileage like the older TDI's, hopefully when they are broken in they get close to the MPGs than the older version, I thought about buying 2010 golf but I am going to have to wait it out, as of now I am driving my old ALH with 210 HP I could easily get to 750-800 miles per tank, of course if I drive it at 70-75mph on the Hwy. GO TDI's

I get 43 mpg keeping the cruise on 70 between Houston & Dallas, which is within the posted speed limit. I only see <40 economy in traffic.

4 separate highway trips, cruise control set at 65mph most of the time.
Just turned 18,000 miles.

Wow, 15.16 gallons to fill-up. That's cutting it too close for me. Congratulations.

My best mpg on a tank was 49.62 with cruise set at 68 mph except through / around two larger cities (55 / 60 mph) and a few construction zones (45 / 50 mph). But my bladder probably wouldn't have let me continue much further after nearly 9 hours of driving to break into the 700 mile club. So, I stopped at about the 600 mile mark and decided to fill-up at the same time. IIRC, miles to empty was still around 150ish which would have put me near the 750 mile mark if I had the guts to push the capacity of the fuel tank.

Yes it is a NEW RECORD for the 09 TDI. Congratulations! Details please, sedan or wagon, manual or DSG? Did you really fit 15.16 gallons in there? If so, then is that the most you have pumped?

Yep, all numbers are correct. Honestly, would have been better mpg with an earlier fill up except that apparently "Baltimore Travel Plaza" doesn't mean to me what it does to them. There was NO car fuel, diesel or gas at this TRUCK plaza, so I had to circle back around, get back on I95 and then begin a search as I was pretty darn low.

Sedan, 6spd, most I have gotten in the tank, but have several with 15.1's. I think if I had the need for a non-stop trip, I would most certainly get near 800 miles.

What are people using to find diesel stations, if anything?? I have "Gas Buddy" on my iPhone, it's a POS for sure and does nothing but aggravate me.

Thanks folks!
Brian
