Thumbs up

My vote, if I may, is a nice "German Chocolate" brown with some gold metal flake, just a little to make it shiney. Or maybe a wet chocolate, lots of clear coat, make it look like a melted chocolate bunny.
OK, I'll but out now...

Default I vote for 1.6 Na w solid lifters- old school!!!

I put an AAZ (11mmpump, 520 nozzles, etc) into my 85 Jetta. Fun, but not as much fun(for me) as my old 1.6- so I went back.
Currently driving a 1.6 n/a w solid lifters. My "butt dyno" tells me that I'm putting out abt 15-20HP over stock. I recently hit 90MPH and she was still accelerating(she has more guts than I do). Gearing is near perfect, 5 speed 020 tranny. -And still capable of 50 MPG+
Only engine mods are: Modified Fuel pump( hense the added HP!!!).
Larger Exhaust.
Larger air filter intake that plumbs cold air from the fender.
An A/C on/off switch built into the shift nob- so I can cycle the A/C off when accelerating, turn it on when sitting @ a light, or crusing(LOVE THIS!!).
Fattywagen nichrome wires to heat the fuel lines.

Plus, with 1.6, , It's EASY to diagnose, EASY to fix- but you almost never have to fix 'em!

There is definitely something to be said for the 1.6 NA. I still like the EcoDiesel though!

WVO works because viscosity has no effect on how a liquid flows out of an injector at high pressure.

I'm all for the track car idea, with suspension work and a nice broad power band tt would be just driving a roller skate

Default 1.6 n/a

Here's what else I like about it:
The power curve perfectly matches the handling charistics- I know EXACTLY how far I can push it. This engine/ car set-up not only allows me to be a better driver, it ENCOURAGES it. -And it is so much more FUN to drive a car closer to it's limits! Daily driving is now SO MUCH FUN! Whoever thought a daily commute would put a GRIN on my face and a bounce in my step!
(and your Rabbit will be abt 150LBS lighter than my Jetta!)

With the modified pump, I not only get more HP, but I get it over a much wider RPM range. -It is still pumping out seriously useable HP at higher RPM's. -
Example: I have a nasty freeway on-ramp(uphill, short, curving, and FAST, heavy traffic at the top) -My 1.6 n/a has NO problems getting up to merge speed. -and I can still be in 3rd gear @50 MPH if I choose.

Maintenence and repairs are SOOO simple! - And cheap!

I can(and have) easily run it on alternative fuels.-veg oil, biodiesel, bacon grease, etc. -But at 50Mpg, I'm only buying 15 gallons of fuel a month, so I mostly just run diesel.

Last thought: If I ever have to re-build it, I will use Total Seal piston rings, and also have a race shop do a dynamic balance , zeroing out vibration as much as possible.
