Default 2009 Jetta, Disable TPMS.

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread...highlight=tpms
This thread links to the vortex thread, and I see some people have better success than others.
My fear is if I disable it, that the dealers will no longer be able to communicate with the car with their equipment, as happened with one poster on vortex.
Is this a valid concern? Why would (un)checking tpms in the gateway screw this up?

Thanks.

When done correctly, the car will no longer think it has the TPMS option installed, even though some hardware is in place... just not used. I've done this for a few cars that had aftermarket rims without issue.

I'm not sure how one would cause a car to not communicate with the factory scan tool via coding only. You might turn off module A via coding of module B, but you can go back to module B and activate module A again. Our cars do not know the difference between scanning with VCDS or the clunker factory scan tools.

It would of course be wise to copy/paste the original codings BEFORE you start making changes so you can always go back to the original starting point. The current version of VCDS does write a log file when coding changes are made as well.

Yeah, I did not copy anything down, just did the code helper, and changed the value in one module adaption from a 1 to a 2.
It certainly worked, no more light!

I'm sure in the spring, I can put it back the way it was. The proof will be if I have to take the car to the stealer, and they try to scan it/ update it, whatever.

So where do you find the revision status in vcds?

To locate the Coding log, C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Debug.

You can also save this to a backup location in the event that the PC dies or just print it for future reference.

I am far from being a VCDS expert but I think the most common (and nearly only) thing that will keep a VW dealer from being able to read or connect with your car is an aftermarket(some of them) radio install..... unplugging the radio temporarily should get around this.

Tuning off the TPMS should cause no problems. IMO

Anyone know any different?

Bill

The single DIN radios to aftermarket were the ones that would lock you out of the control modules because of a battery + signal being pumped down the K line. With the double DIN radios, there is no K line to the radio, but rather a CAN BUS system. I've not run into a double DIN to aftermarket swap that locks me out of anything.
