Working to understand and program my new to me 2011 JSW TDI with a rns315. I somehow keep muting am/fm/seius xm, randomly (not with the mute button) which locks out the volume knob control at random levels (no sound). I was able to reset to "factory settings" once. I bumbled it up again. eeerrrrr....

All else fails, manual time

Are you using the steering wheel button or phone button to mute it?
The mute on the radio is not pushed. Just to confirm I toggled it to try all possibilities. Which reminds me the overhead mute doesn't seem to do anything. I read something in the past over concerns/lawsuit(?) regarding this? I have a 2011 w/ built in BT on the rns315. The article I read went over the BT modules. 2w9, 3w9, 7w9. All radios used a separate module under the pass. seat, except the rns 315. According to this article the 2011 MY used the better 7w9. Does this mean my 2011 rns315 has 7w9 built in BT is equivalent to 7w9 module

As far as the phone goes, when receiving calls should the radio auto mute/lower the volume?

Guess I need more seat time. The VW radio manual stinks

To clarify, the radio (fm only) would not unmute. I found and did the reset to factory settings, re-paired the phone. got a little way in setting channels and it did the no sound control thing before completion.

You have those Bluetooth modules backwards. It’s 9w2, 9w3, and 9w7. There are different versions of the 9w7 that have more features. You would need to upgrade to a 2012 or newer radio to get those features and not all RNS-315’s have built-in Bluetooth. Beginning in 2014 only some had it.

Mine is a 12 and has bluetooth built in. To the OP's question, I have found that if I spin the volume nob 'down' quickly it mutes everything like you are describing, if you spin it quickly back 'up's it reverses the effect, hope that helps!

I beleive BT was an option so it does stand to reason that only some 315s have built in. Are you saying no built in unti 14?

I have a phone book but no previous calls or other features as far as I know. I cant seem to find any info on voice control. Probably a 9w2? Im used to a 2017 Subaru BT so I'm wondering if I should just go to an aftermarket. I had a 2015 Kenwood DNN992 in my Passat that was incredible

Haven't looked into the version of the module in my car and a rarely use the voice command stuff. It seems almost exactly like the sync system that was in my 14' Ford focus (computer voice is even the same) but I never used that either so i wont be much help to you there.

The early model 9w7’s didn’t have A2DP features. 2012+ have them. All RNS-315’s from 2011-2013 had built-in Bluetooth and only some 2014+ models have it.

A2DP is the 3.5mm aux input on the lower right of the unit, isn't it? My 2011 has that, I haven't tried it yet. The BT phone works great, better microphone. pickup than my 17' Subaru. Maybe because the interior noise control is excellent. Only thing I wish it had where several preset phone numbers.

I also have a multiple pin plugin attaching a short cable in the center console??? What's that about?

Got am/FM programmed but my 3mo (2/5 -5/5) Sirius xm is dead. Surprised at the decent sound on fm for none HD

Anyone have a list of voice commands?

Ill probably keep the rns315 and ad the camera. I miss my Kenwood in the old Passat TDI.

Your 2011 radio doesn’t support A2DP when streaming music using Bluetooth. It won’t allow you to change songs with steering controls when using Bluetooth either. You need the newer radio for that. If you look under the passenger front seat you probably have a Bluetooth module. Your radio has internal Bluetooth, but it probably isn’t being used.

Can you offer a PN for the OEM radio required to "change songs with steering controls when using Bluetooth?"

I have a 2010 and want to know, as my head unit crapped out and need to source a replacement.
