Clip on thermostat housing

What's the trick to getting the clip back in? I can't seem to push it all the way back on. Stuck with car down.

elbow is 037121121a and adapter is 037121619a

This is from memory....Try pushing it on from the other side. I believe the slots it slides over are not quite symmetric. One way works, the other doesn't.

Make sure you have the adapter pushed all the way into the elbow. There's an arrow recess on one part & a arrow projection on the other. Make sure the arrow projection penetrates fully into the recess.

Sometimes it requires a tool (screwdriver or something to pry with) to push the adapter all the way into the elbow.
